First Ear Infection

Gretchen's been tugging on her ear lately. She's done that before, but only when she was tired or her teeth were coming through. I don't know if it's related to teething now, but she's also been shaking her head back and forth every once in a while. Is this an ear infection? Do I need to take her in? She doesn't have a fever, though, and other than the ear tugging and head shaking, she's acting fine.....

I think I just answered my own question. I finally got a good look inside Gretchen's mouth and it looks like she's got her first top tooth and a third bottom tooth coming through. But the head shaking is still weird, if anyone has any ideas about that..........??

Max had beendoing the head shaking thing when I took him in for his 6 month appt and his ear drum was on the verge of rupturing. I felt horrible! Looking back he was a little fussier in the evening, but no obvious signs that something was wrong. He stared shaking his head last week during a bad cold and sure enough, he had another ear infection.

Oh gosh! I need to take her in then somehow.

It's so hard to tell. A lot of babies play and tug on their ears. Then again, some don't show any signs of pain when they have an ear infection. Is she having trouble sleeping or drinking? Those were signs for my dd. Hope it's just a new stage and not an infection!

It's funny that you mentioned this. Christian has his first ear infection and a bad cold. The ped gave me antibiotics so hopefully he'll be better soon! He's sooo clingy I have to sleep with him on the couch! It could be from her teeth but I would take her in just to be safe. Hope she feels better soon!

She's eatting and drinking fine. Sleeping normal, though not through the night. It's the head shaking thing that bothers me the most because I just noticed it yesterday. But I'm worried because we still dont 'have our insurance fixed so we're without at the moment and if it's not an ear infection that's money we dont' have, ya know? I hate this. :(

That stinks! Does she have a temp?

99 degrees, she did just spit up though. Poor thing, she was staring at it, like "oops".

Can't they get an ear infection from teething? I just figured the extra saliva could get into the inner ear just like mucous from a cold can. Sounds like an ear infection to me......

Hey, does anyone have one of those EarChecks? It's a way to see if your lo has an ear infection before taking them to the doctor. It's $45 though.

Neha's been shaking her head (like saying no) and tugging on her ears for a few weeks now and when we called our dr's office before, they said it's because of her teeth. But if she has a temp or has trouble sleeping at night/wakes up too often then to have to come in to checkup. We were at the dr's office yday for her back of the head/itching/eczema thing and we had the dr check her ears as well. They were normal. I hope Gretchen's doing that because of her new teeth! I can't believe she's getting two more already! Neha's only got 2 tiny bottom ones just out now.

piratesmermaid - February 14

Nita, that's exactly what Gretchen's doing. No cold, no fever....

piratesmermaid - then she probably is doing that because of the teeth. Hey, did I misread your post..is she getting two more teeth, or these two are her first? Sometimes I read too much than what my brain can process! LOL!

She already has her two bottom ones, they were coming in over Christmas. I see a bit of white on her top gums, and a bit of white beside her bottom right tooth, so if these teeth come in, that's 4! Crazy. Might be weaning from the b___by sooner than we planned! ;)

LOL!
