I got the flu shot while I was pregnant. Now, my girl is not quite 4 months old, and my husband has asked me if I am getting it, and if she'll be getting it. My reaction is "heck no, keep that flipping needle away from us!" cause I hate needles and she's getting her immunizations in just a few weeks anyway. Am I making the wrong decision?

I don't think you are making the wrong decision. Your baby can't get one unless she is 6 mo. old anyway and unless she was born with some type of problem or unless your doctor recommends it I don't think she needs it. Besides getting the flu shot does not guarantee that either of you will not get sick. I think it is for old people and people that have asthma or who have a hard time making it through flu season. I think good old fashioned hand-washing works. My son is 3 and in pre-school and he hasn't been sick yet this year and now I have a 5 wk. old that I am worried is going to get sick from the 3 year old. There is really nothing I can do and I don't want to start getting the flu shots every year if it isn't necessary.

I don't think any doctor will be giving your 4 month old a flu shot. It's not even allowed below 6 months of age, and even then many pediatricians shy away from it. As for you, many doctors recommend it for infant caregivers, but it's really up to you. The protection the shot guarantees is marginal at best.

My doc recommended that I get the shot as well as anyone who cares for Lucas since he will not be 6 months until Feb, but I do not believe the shot is helpful and am not going to get it. I'm not trying to be irresponsible with my son, I just beleieve that there are so many strains out there that I would definitely get all the ones I was not vaccinated for, becuase that is just my luck.

As a preventive measure, I received the flu shot that my pediatrician highly recommended...as did my husband and 3-year old who attends pre-school. I figured it can't hurt...
