Motility Drugs Anyone With Experience

As some of you know, my son (8 months) has reflux and he was put on motility drugs about a week ago. Well, his symptoms don't seem to be getting any better, he is just really grumpy and whiney all day long and after an initial 3 hours sleep, he is up every hour at night. Does this mean that the drugs aren't working or do we have to wait a bit longer to see if they are any good?

hello - February 7

You arent gonna find anyone on at this time, they are all asleep except me and apr hah.... Try posting a question to bonnie, her son had reflux and she can help you... I have no experience with it and have never heard of drugs being given... I am sorry u are going thru this though....I hope someone helps, keep bumping it up till u get some answers .. I think after a week they would have kicked in by now... I would be going back to the drs cause both of u cant keep going like this u know...

I'm not sure what drug your son is on, but Max is on prevacid and it takes a couple of weeks to shut down the acid producing pumps. You shouldn't really see any improvement with prevacid or prilosec in babies for about 2 weeks. Full effectiveness won't be reached until about 4 weeks. But we it was a huge difference in Max after about 2 wks.

Thanks, girls...I don't know if you are still reading this, Kara H...Motility drugs help the stomach empty faster, thereby reducing the number of reflux episodes the baby has to deal with. They don't, however, have any impact on acid production as such. This is exactly what I'm wondering about. The GI specialist we saw is unwilling to do anything further in the matter and our ped doesn't want to do anything without the GI specialist's go ahead. I guess, that's what you can call a catch 22. I really don't know what to do if he doesn't improve soon!

have you tried googling the drug's name to see what you can find out about it?
