My Daughter Won T Burp

My lo is 5 days old and I've been nursing since day one. I've only heard her burp twice. I've tried every position, and after 5 minutes, still nothing. I'm also supplementing with 1-2 ounces of formula (because of jaundice) after each time I nurse. I try right before I switch from br___t to bottle, and then again after the bottle. And nothing. Any advice?

Hey there Mrs Steve! They say babies don't burp as much with bfing....they ingest less air overall. Theoretically we are burping our babies to relieve discomfort anyway... As long as Alyssa is not overly fussy or arching her back or spitting up a bunch I would not worry. She may also be burping when you are not in earshot.... Derek does that sometimes....when I least expect it!

Congrats on your dd! Breastfed babies do tend to burp less then a bottlefed baby. When I have trouble burping my dd, I just lay her down for a minute and then when I pick her back up I can usually get a good burp out of her. Also do you put her on your shoulder to burp, if so maybe try to sit her up and support her head with your hand under her chin and burp her that way. My babies always burped better sitting up.
