My Turn To Vent Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

So, about 2 weeks ago my new neighbors came over and asked me if I would like to watch their 2 kids (5 and 9) after school for about 1 hour. On occasion I would need to take them to the bus stop in the morning when the mom had to go into work early but I would get notice of that and it would be when my dh was off of work. I never got told how much I would get paid or when but she did say she would pay me. Well Last week the kids were off school 2 days because of the wind chill factor. Their dad works outside and he was off work too, so no big deal. I ended up watching the kids 2 days that week (after school). One of the days that the dad was off was also one of the days I would have had to be up early (6:30am) to see the kid onto the is also a day that dh is home from work. Fortunately I didn't have to. Well, today I watched the kids again (in the afternoon) and the mom took FOREVER to get here. She was about 45 minutes later than when she should have been here. My poor dh who works nights had to wake up to 2 kids and not be able to spend time with me and dd like he usually does. On top of that, the mom says to me that she needs me to see the kids on the bus tomorrow morning. Well, that means that my dd who wakes up at 8am usually, willl probably be woke up by these 2 kids at 6:30am. I have to feed them breakfast and then take them to the bus stop. This is absolutely ridiculous if you ask me. The neighbor still hasn;t talked to me about money. It is throwing off my dd's schedule...and mine too for that matter. I am going to call her soon and tell her that this just isn't working out. I just am afraid they will be mad at me and dh. They are new to the neighborhood as of last October, and we have been here about 10 months. I just hate making people mad I guess and I am fearing the worst. Well, anyhow, I jsut had to get that off my chest. I am going to go work the courage up to call her. Wish me luck!

Yikes! Good luck to you on this one! It sounds as though she started to take advantage of the situation. If it's not working out, now is the time to back out. That way you aren't vested anymore in it and she can find someone else. Again, good luck to you!

Yeah, she sure was taking advantage. I just got off the phone with her. I told her it just wasn't working out with our schedule. I told her I would finish out the week, but I wanted to give her time to find other arrangements. Hopefully they won't hate me/us because of it!

Good for you. What did she say?

jb - February 12

She said thanks for letting her know...and she sounded like...oh c___p...what am I going to do!! I sure am glad I called and told her. I feel a lot better.

Maybe she will think twice before she takes advantage of the next person.

I wouldnt feel too bad, usually these type of people wouldnt feel bad about pulling out of an agreement if it didnt suit them either. At the end of the day it would be silly to make yourself and your family unhappy just to please someone else. She will probably forget all about it once she finds someone else.

Yeah, don't feel bad. I felt bad Telling my homeless friend that she couldn't move in with us after she said she couldn't pay utilities. but after that she never spoke to me or dh again. That's when I realized that she was just looking for a free ticket. Make sure you get your pay though! And charger her overtime for being late!

why don't you just tell her what you told us? You don't have to be mean, just a__sertive. A Simlpe "Hey, this wasn't part of our agreement, let's ""suggest idea you could be happy with"">. I think sometimes people don't realise they're being overbearing, insensitive etc.
