Need Preemie Size Diaper That Won T Leak

My son was 4lbs 2 oz at birth and weighed 5 lbs 5 oz the other day at 3 weeks of age. We've found that both Huggies and Pampers make diapers for preemies up to 6lbs, but we've had problems with both types leaking. Pampers have worked better than Huggies, but with both, we've had the urine come out the sides of the leg openings and then get all over his back when he's lying down in the bassinet. Does anyone have a suggestion for better diapers? I'd consider either disposable or cloth. It's hard to find any diapers at all for a baby this small.

No suggestions for diapers, but make sure you are pointing his p___s downwards before you velcro his diaper closed. The first week of my son's life he has getting the sides and backs of his little outfits wet and I couldn't figure it out until a nurse told me, sure enough it was because his p___s was pointing upwards and I wasn't pointing it down! We didn't have a problem with it after that.

Yep, we even have a song about it. That song "Let The Bodies Hit The Floor", we have changed to "Point The Pee-Pee To The Floor". Right before they pee, it gets semi-erect and pops up. So you need to physically hold it down with one finger has you fasten the diaper. If you tug up on the diaper to reposition it, you need to retuck the pee-pee because pulling up on the diaper will point his p___s straight out so when he pees it will bounce off and shoot out over his hip.

One of my twins was born at 3 pounds 15 oz and we used the Pampers Swaddlers. I loved them and didn't have a problem.

I used the Pampers Newborn Swaddlers. I didnt have any problem with them. DS was 5 lbs 7 ounces at birth and wore the newborn size until about 2 1/2 months!

My dd was born at 6lbs 4oz.. but by the time we left the hospital she weighed about 5lbs 2oz. We used the newborn pampers swaddlers.. they worked like a charm. Might be different for boys though. ~Kristin~

ok i have 3 girls and i finally had a boy and i am scared to death i'm hurting his pee pee when i change him or i'm scared i'm crushing it with the diaper how can you tell cause he crys when his diaper gets changed no matter who does it my sister has 3 boys and know how to change them with out hurting them and he still crys my son is only 15 days old help!!!!!

I doubt it has anything to do with hurting his p___s. He probably just doesn't like to be naked. Every baby is different. Don't worry. It is much tougher than you think. Wait until he can reach it. Then you will see how rough it can be handled! :)

I too agree with the newborn pampers swadders. A lot of time when diapers leak, it means that it is too small. My son went home at 5lbs 8oz and I used the newborn size. Now at 7 months, he is still in a size 1.

Thanks everyone. My husband is also worried about it being uncomfortable when we poke at our son's p___s to position it in the diaper, but so far he hasn't cried when we've tried it. He does cry though when we take off his clothes to change him.

We had to travel such a hard road to have Max - and he had a hard journey hanging on to my uterus long enough to make it in the world - we are still beaming and finding the humor in everyday with him.

Kara H, I laughed at your dh likes that let teh bodies hit the floor as he had a stressful job and would sing it to relieve stress, not to mention that I think he was picturing certain bodies hitting the floor.....alos ROTFL at your rough handdling are on a roll today! I hated pampers swaddlers cause they were too small and leaked, but I had full term, big babies, so I would guess they would be great for littler ones.
