Nipple Recommendations

Now that my little fella is 6 weeks old and we have a good br___tfeeding pattern established I wanted to start pumping to give him a bottle when we go out to certain places (where it can be inconvenient to nurse). I pumped this morn before church, but then he had a hard time because the milk came out so fast it was practically drowning him...he kept getting strangled. The bottle was a Munchkin with the Tri-Flow nipple system. I had it set on slow, but it was dripping out at a pretty steady rate when I held it upside down to see why he was getting strangled. Any one have any suggestions for a good SLOW dispensing nipple? I remember seeing one advertised in a magazine made especially for br___t babies--the milk only came out when the baby sucked on it--but I don't remember what it was called, but I remember that it was only available at a certain place (can't remember the place!) I'd like to not have to go through my stacks of mags if anyone knows the name of that nipple.

I HATE the munchkin Triflow nipple. No matter what "speed" you have it on it seems that it comes out FAST!! I know the nipple that you are talking about but i really cant think of it. The thing about the ones like that is if they are really hungry and suck hard and fast they will get WAY too much milk. My daughter has sippy cups like that and she chokes all the time when she is really thirsty. I recommend either the dr browns bottles or the playtex drop in nurser system all with level one nipple. They are extremely slow and perfect for your little one. Good luck

I thought it was like "second choice" or something but I tried googling it and couldn't find anything. I know it's second something though. My little one takes the vent-aire natural latch bottle and does great with it. It has never choked her or anything, in fact it's the only bottle she'll take.

Thank you ladies. I should've tried it at home first to make sure things were okay. I just a__sumed that slow actually meant slow:-(

My son is 6 weeks also and we've been going thru the same trials. We have given up on playtex vents because the nipples were either too fast or too slow. Our child has picked the Avent bottle that says on the packaging that it "reduces colic." The nipple speed seemed to work really well for him.

My baby is 7 weeks old and i had to try so many nipples before finding one that worked.... i actually after trying so many bottle, including the second nature one you are refering to (its at babys r us, but I hated it, in fact I had a gift set I returned) - the one bottle my baby takes with no problems (we are also b___st feeding) is the original cheap Gerber bottle with the size one nipple. JH - I also had a problem with the vent bottles also.

i also love the playtex #1 nipples for the drop=in system. they encourage a latch similar to the bf latch and wont flood your babies mouth. my son is a b___st and bottle baby, and he does great switching back and forth between the two with these bottles. they also have NO air bubbles. we love em.

You just have to play around with a bunch of different nipples and bottles. I finally found the playtex ventaire slow flow nipples/bottles and havent changed since. They are the only ones that worked.
