This morning my dh went to check on Brendan before he left for work, yesterday he took quite a bump to the head. Of course Brendan woke up, dh left him in there to go back to sleep. I was listening to him play for about 20 mins when I heard a thump. It wasn't very loud and there was no crying. I figured it was Brendan throwing his toys on the floor. 10 seconds later I heard the gate banging at the top of the stairs. I jumped out of bed and ran out and saw Brendan standing at the top of the stairs! Not only did he get out of his crib, he got out of his room! What am I going to do? Anyone else with a little escape artist???

Nice typo, I meant 14 month old!!

I'm afraid that if his crib is set on the lowest setting and the rail was all the way up and he could still escape... that it's time for a toddler bed and maybe a doorknob cover so he can't get out of his room. my 18 month old is about to make the transition to his bed for the same reason (well, he hasn't gotten out yet, but I know he could... he's actually tall enough to FALL over the rail!). Don't you wish you could keep them confined a bit longer? *sigh*

He just doesn't seem big enough for a toddler bed! *sigh* And he definitely cannot be trusted alone in his room...I can see it now, he'll have everything from his closet and dresser on floor in the middle of his room!!

you could get one of those tent things that go over the crib so he cant get out. I dont know the name of it but they should have it at your local babies -r-us

I know what you mean. We have bolted the dresser to the wall so it won't tip on him and the only other thing in his room is the crib (soon toddler bed). His room's only 8 X 10, so we're lucky... there's only so much damage he can do. I have a feeling we will have clothes everywhere, too, though! GGRR! My other two managed to stay put in the crib until almost 3 (ds) and 22 months (dd). I was hoping for more of the same... no such luck!

OOHHH...this may be right up my alley. We just transitioned our 2 year old, only she wasn't quite two yet, into a toddler bed. It has been a pretty easy transition. She was just climbing out of her crib and coming out to the living room. The trasition hasn't been too bad but I think it would have been easier if we would have done it when she was younger rather than "miss mind of her own" or later when she understood bribes. He He! I just figured that I wanted to get her out b4 she got really hurt. It doesn't matter if they get out of their toddler bed if they can get out of the crib, continuously.

Brendansmom: My friend use to put her little on I think he was like 15 or 16 months in his room to play. The age might be off a bit, but anyway she put a gate in front of his room so he could nt get out. (Stairs by bedrooms) You could do that just to make sure if he does it again that he is at least still in his room. If you do that make sure he can not shut the door though. Put the gate on the inside of the door hinge. If you get what I am saying. Not the outside of it but so he can not shut the door.
