Screaming Baby

Today has been a real trying day. At about 10am is when my happy baby went to become an unhappy baby. She is 11 weeks old and had been sleeping through the night since she was about 6 weeks old. The past few nights she has woke up for a feeding, which is fine and I figured it was a growth spurt. Today she has been screaming her head off almost all day. Sometimes I can't even console her. She hardly even slept today because of it. I thought it was because she had to poop. She did end up having a good blowout in her diaper though. For the most part she poops every day. It usually looks like a mcnugget, but it is not hard. It is almost like play doh. She has always been gassy, but never seemed to have problems going poop. She has been on the same formula for well over a month now and I haven't noticed any problems. Could this 'crabby baby' be going through a growth spurt? Is it normal for them to be crabby in a growth spurt? I remember her 6 week spurt and all she did was sleep. It just seems weird to me. She is normally such a happy baby. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I wouldn't consider the crabbiness to be part of a growth spurt. Her poop sounds a bit hard the way you describe it. Peanut b___ter is usually the best consistency. But if it does not bother her then that may not be the problem either. Take a good look at her from head to toe (check her fingers and toes in case a hair gets wrapped around, etc.). Check her temp. If she is still this way tomorrow, call the ped. Could be an ear infection, she could be getting sick...she might be cutting a tooth! :) Goodluck!

I'm not sure about the crabbiness.. but the poop doesn't sound right. I don't think it should be formed at all.. not even to look like play doh. How long has it been like that? Maybe you LO has a stomach ache?

Her poop has been like this for weeks. Either she has a good b__wout once a day or she has a few mcnuggets throught the day. I also thought she might be getting sick. I did take her axilary temp and she was fine. I looked for hairs wrapped in the fingers and I didn't see any. I sure hope she is better tomorrow or I will call the doc. The few times today when she wasn't scraming she had the whiney cry as if she wanted to be held. When I did pick her up she would be fine for a bit then back to screaming. I did the shhhhhhh in her ear and that would calm her for a bit. I feel so bad for her. I wish I knew what I could do to help her. I know she is so overtired today. I did finally lay her down in her crib about an hour ago. Hopefully she will sleep for a bit (for her sake and mine!!!). Thanks for your help and suggestions!!!

You mentioned her poop has been that way for weeks and has beenon the new formula a month. What kind of formula is it?

parent's choice is the formula. I meant basically that her poop has been the same since being on this formula. Sprry for the confusion.

Ah okay, I just wanted to make sure it wasn't a hypoallergenic as they can cause constipation at times. If that is even the problem. If she's still that way tomorrow I'd call the ped and get her ears and gums checked out. Let us know!

My daughter is also on Parents Choice, and she has slightly formed poop. My ped says that is fine for formula fed babies. As long as it is not hard and dark in color, then it is fine. The play-doh consistency is about the same as my daughter, and her dr said it is fine, so I wouldn't stress about that aspect. My lo does the same thing sometimes, and then it will just stop. I never know what causes it.. but it will jsut go away. It is hard to tell. Maybe it is a headache or gas bubble, or anything. It is so hard to tell when they are this little and unable to tell you. It just breaks your heart!!
