Sleeping Thru The Night What Is Going On

When my dd was a little more than a month old, she started sleeping 8-9 hour stretches at night. It lasted about a week, and then she went back to waking up every 3-4 hours. She did another week or so of 8 hour stretches at about 2 months, and then the same thing. She's 3 months now, and I never have any idea how long she'll sleep. It can be anywhere from 2 1/2 hours to 9 hours. After she wakes up the first time, she seems to get up every 3 hours - which is fine if the first stretch is a long one, but not so good if it's not. I just don't know what is going on!!! She eats a lot during the day, and that never seems to correspond with how much she sleeps at night. I bundle her up to make sure she's not cold, but that doesn't seem to help either. What am I missing here? Once she wakes up, the only way I can get her back to sleep is to feed her (bf)- even though I know she's probably not really hungry. I try holding her, giving her the paci, rocking her, but she just cries. Any ideas??? I'm getting desperate for sleep! And I know she can get a better night's sleep too!

my son was the same way!!!!! i neve rknew how long he would sleep or how many times he would wake? it was a guessing game till 6 months! around 5 months he went to 2 night feeds and then at 6 months started to sleep right through every night but he has still had some ups and downs every once in awhile. It was frustrating as you think all is well and then you become sleep deprived again!

oh is hould say that for my ds it was a hunger factor everytime! He was a big baby and had a big appet_te and still does, if he doesn't eat enough during the day he will wake.

my guess wuld be growth spurts. i know there r some at 2, 4, 8 weeks, 4, 6 months and so on. My son is 8 months and he's still unpredictable!

The first time it happened, I thought it was a growth spurt. But it can't be... She'll sleep 8 hours one night, 3 the next, 6 the next, and then 3 again. There is no rhyme or reason to it. Lin, I guess she could really just be hungry, but why would it differ so much each night??

Any other ideas of what might be causing this??? I desperately need some sleep. :( She was up every 2 hours last night!!!

Is there any other connection with the nights that she ends up waking alot? Like maybe having a busy day or being on the go alot that day, or just schedule changes, or maybe something in your diet, that bf may make her ga__sy or something. It's all just a guessing game, you just have to try and put the peices together. My ds was the same way, but it was from teething and it was when he was a few months older. I highly recommend keeping a journal where you write down every feeding, nap, activities, diaper changes, consistency , etc. It really helps with these guessing games trying to figure out what's going on. Good luck!

looks like my son has joined this "unpredictable sleepers" club. thought the new routine I had come up with was working because he slept well for 2 nights in a row....but nope! seems he has nights where he sleeps great and then nights where he is up like every hour. it's driving me crazy
