Smelly Pee And What You Should Know

Hi ladies..just thought I'd post what we just went through. My dd is 4.5 months old, and last week I started noticing that her pee was smelling stronger. Hmph..weird, but didn't think much of it. 2 days later, still smelling stronger, and it seemed like I'd change her, then she'd pee right away again. Hmmm..interesting. Then, next day her head felt warm..took her temp and it was low grade fever 99.3..put her to bed with .50 ml of Tylenol. Checked for fever the next 2 fever. She started to get fussier for what seemed like no reason over this week as well. Did some research online, which said that if baby has FEVER, it could be a urinary tract infection. Long story short..her pee kept smelling, and she kept getting fussier..took her to emergency because I felt panicky/worried, and YEP, a urinary tract infection. Poor thing suffered for a week with it because she didn't have a high fact, only had a tiny fever one day. I'm posting this so that you know..even if there's no fever, bring your baby to the doc. She's on antibiotics now, and doing much better. Still don't know how/why she got it (tests are forecoming, poor thing), but at least she got treatment. Hope this helps someone! N.

My ds' pee is getting smelly...I've been worried about a UTI, and I asked the nurse at the last visit, and she didn't seem to think it was a big deal. He is circ'd so I know that reduces the chances of his getting a UTI, and he's never had a fever...How often did your dd's pee smell? Was it just a smell in the diaper?

Hmm... thanks for the post! DD is bf and on solids, but sometimes I get lucky and a poo smells like before I started solids : ). But twice in the last few days I thought I'd had a nonsmelly poo, which they still smell but aren't as stinky, and it wasn't. It was just her pee smelling kinda strong : S. I didn't think much of it, as she's been acting normal. So looks like I'd better get her in, thanks again!

What is the odor like. I've noticed ds's pee smells stronger but not exactly smelly

Hi, the smell is just STRONG pee - it doesn't smell foul necessarily, just really smelly, almost as though I'd left her in a dirty diaper for 12 hours -which, of course, I didn't.I change her everytime I feed her which is every 3 hours or so. I also found that I was changing her more often..I'd change her, and a half hour later I could smell it again. I was later told by the nurse, that UTI's mean that they pee a LOT. If isn't constant over a day or two, I wouldn't worry..this was consistent smelly... Hope no one's baby's get a UTI, but I thought I'd post just in case!
