Hello ladies. We are just starting our 4 mth old dd on rice cereal and all is going well. I'm going to puree and freeze some carrot and pear etc in ice cube trays for her, but i just want to know if, once they are thawed, they need to be warmed up for her to eat?

I don't think they really need to be warmed up, but I think your LO will definately take to it better. I usually just put a cube of food in the micro on defrost not the heat, until it thaws and then just warms a bit.

It all depends on the baby. Some babies like it warmed a bit and some don't care. My daughter will eat her baby food right out of the frig, or warmed up in the microwave.

Thank you for your responses ladies. I guess I'll just wait and see how she likes it and do what she wants!

You are not supposed to make your own carrot baby food. Something about nitrates or something like that! I would check up on it. The other stuff should be fine though. I bet that she would like it warmed up better. My daughter still won't eat if its not warmed up. She makes silly faces and spits it all out until I warm it up, then gobbles it right down. Silly girl.

I always warmed up my baby's veggies (and meats), but let them take the fruits chilled. Sometimes younger babies won't take it chilled though.

Tami, that is also what I've read several different places, so I called my peds office. They said it was fine as long as you rinse the vegtables well, it's from the fertilizer used not the actual vegtable, so in that case it applies to most veggies. It just affects carrots more since there's no protective covering. My doc said it was fine to make at home just be sure to rinse very well and buy organic if you can.
