Still Spitting Up At 4 Months

So far I have been really lucky that the only issue we have had with our 4 month ds is spitting up. My question is when do they grow out of it?? He has never been a consistent spitter (and when he does spit up he is always a happy spitter). He seems to have this problem in waves. We put him on the Enfamil AR from approx 6weeks-11weeks to help with the spit up...it worked well for that time, but then he started spitting up just as much on it than when he was on regular formula. He is 18 weeks now and has been on milk based formula ever since and I have noticed that the past 2 weeks he has been back at the spitting up almost after every meal again. It always first occurs after we burp him and then it can happen up to 2 hours AFTER he has eaten!! I was under the impression that they usually grow out of this by now or am i wrong? Anyone else have this issue?

Oh btw....my pediatrician said to go ahead and start him on rice cereal bc he has already doubled his birth weight and consumes way more than 32 ounces/formula a day, so I am hoping this will eventually help, but as it stands right now he only gets a taplespoon a day so I doubt that will make much of a difference

Hey Eclectic66- dd turns 6 months sat and she is still spitting up plenty- severeal times after each feeding. She isnt on meds b/c she is a happy spitter and growing fine. I thought it went away by 6 months also but I posted almost this identical question on the another parenting forum and a few woman said it can last as long as 18 months but decreases in frequency. Be careful though with the solids. I just started them with dd and she spits them up alot.. and things like sweet potatoes can get very messy... (think ORANGE everywhere :o)) Also- we didn't do rice cereal but we do oatmeal but she doesn't spit that up as much.. someone on that other forum knew someone who lost there 7 month old because she choked on thick solid food spit up in t he middle of the night. YIKES.. since i heard that I switched to feeding dd food in t he am or at lunch and I keep the moniter cranked up when she is sleeping. She spits up the solids just like b___stmilk though and it gets really messy. She can spit up stuff like sweet potatoes more than 2 hours after eating.... ohh and dd has days when she doesn't spit up that much and says where she spits up tons.... Its just so messy!!!!!

Hello! My son is just about to turn 7 months old, and used to spit up a whole lot too. I think it lessened a lot around the 6 month mark. He is b___stfed, and used to spit that up after pretty much every feeding. When we first started solids, like excited said, he spit those up too. I was worried at first, but then he grew out of it. Now he will occasionally spit up a little, but nowhere near what it used to be like. Hang in there!

Ty ladies. I am glad to know that it does still happen at this age and beyond. Because my dh and I were so worried we ended up taking him to the doctor today and he also said what you all said. As long as he's putting on weight and doesn't seem to be in any distress then not to worry. I had brought up the idea of reflux, but he said he doesn't think he has that bc he doesn't seem to be in distress when he lays flat.
