Tummy Sleeping Question

My son is 4 months old and he used to be a wonderful sleeper and would sleep through the night. (10pm -6am) well for the past few weeks he has been waking up a few times a night...like 4 or so. I go to his room and put his binkey back in his mouth and he is good for awhile. Lastnight at 4am I finally decided to try laying him on his tummy and he slept til 730 without waking up. My question is..is this okay? He is very strong and he rolls over both ways. Does anyone else do tummy sleeping? Thank you!

i wouldn't put my son to sleep on his tummy. every now and then, if i need to wake him up or i go in to check on him, he's on his tummy. i wouldn't turn him to his back though if he did it himself. he does know how to roll over both ways, but i just don't feel comfortable putting him to sleep on his belly initially...how ever he ends up (belly or back) in the morning is up to him.

Jodie, they make an Angelcare monitor (it's pricey though) that detects fine movements like breathing that will go off. If you do the tummy thing that might make you feel safer. :)

thanks! I have him on his tummy in his crib right now. I keep checking on him. I figure I will flip him back over before i go to bed. Maybe I will wait until he is a little older or until he rolls himself in that position in his sleep. He just moves around so much when he sleeps on his back...I will lay him in his crib the normal way then he will be completly spun around in the morning. He is a wild man!

i know what you mean...my son is all over the place in his crib! it freaked me out the first time i saw him on his belly in the morning! it's so funny how paranoid we all are now about SIDS and back to sleep, and we were all put on our tummy to sleep.

When they do get that bit older its fine cause they end up in all positions. If its working then do it but my daughter was still on her back at that age cause she wasnt rolling or anything if i recall.

my daughter used to sleep better on her stomach too. i bought a sleep positioner instead if the pricey angelcare movement sensor. i got one that let her sleep on her side and she seemed to like it just as much as her belly. so if the tummy sleeping makes you nervous maybe try that they sell them at walmart for like $10.

Jodie; my daughter is 4 months also, and she sleeps on her tummy every night. She can turn over both ways too, and I have not had any problems. I personally don't see anything wrong with it.
