Way Too Much Information

Ok. Lets just get it out there. I have been exclusively pumping and supplementing ds. He is 3 months old. I have not gotten my period back yet and have not started the mini pill so I wouldn't affect my milk supply. Well, we had a condom malfunction tonight and I am scared s***less about it. I am going to call my OB tomorrow about the 72 hour emergency contraception just in case. My question is, has anyone used this, will it mess up my milk supply or me, and how susceptible am I to getting pregnant while exclusively pumping at least 4 times a day? I know that this may upset some people, but I had a very difficult pregnancy/delivery and I'm not completely healed yet so being pregnant again so soon is a very bad idea, and I want to take responsibility of my possible ovulation so I don't have to worry. Thank you in advance for any advice. :)

While I have not used Plan B, I have used Rx drugs to help with my milk supply. So if your only concern in using Plan B is your milk supply, I would just ask your doctor for milk stimulating drugs as well in case you need them. They should more than make up for any supply loss you experience. You may need to supplement a bit more for a few days after you take Plan B since you may have to wait a day or two for the milk producing drugs (I don't know - just speculating) since they increase your prolactin levels.

I thought the main reason behind the mini pill is that it doesn't effect your milk supply. that is why my doc put me on it, he couldn't use the regular combined pill cause it could cause my milk to dry up. I used it with my oldest with no effect and am currently nursing my second (8mos) and it has had no effect on my suplly. I would say if your sone is three months old, and your nuisng (or pumping) would help keep ovualtion down. Plus the condoms, while I know you said there was a malfuction. I understand you had a diffcult time and you shouldn't get pregnant again so soon, but if it were me, I wouldn't use Plan B. I just dont like it. But I understand your decision. Good lulck.

Thank you ladies. I appreciate the advice. I am starting the mini pill today, I just didn't want to risk my supply, even though I've been a__sured it would be ok. I will see how it goes and go from there. As for the other part, I guess I would just feel safer knowing that everything is ok. I am afraid that it will make me sick, though. I am going to call my OB and see what she says.
