Weight Gain After Pyloric Stenosis

I am just curious if there are any moms out there that have had their babygo through surgery due to Pyloric Stenosis... if your baby has had the surgery I am curious to know how their weight gain was after their recovery and if they experienced any other ailments as a result of having PS... After going through that with my son this past week I am a little worried about his development (although I know it is a highly successful procedure, development is not impaired and there are rarely side effects ...so the doctor's say...) I am still a little nervous.

Sheena! OMG! I wondered about you and just read your f/u post on your reflux thread. How is your baby doing? I cannot believe what idiots your doctor and the other hospital's docs were!! What did your pediatrician say when you told him what happened? I hope you find yourself a new pediatrician b/c I could never trust that pperson again. I'm sorry I do not have an answer to your question, but there are a couple of other moms whoes babies has PS floating around the forum and they may have an answer for you. I am so glad that the baby got the medical attention he needed and that he is doing better. I'm sure he will be gaining lots of weight now!

Thank you Christy for your response and well wishes... I am happy to see that he is now doing much better. My son had a doctor's appt this past Monday and I had called the office to cancel as we were in the hospital... when the doctor found out what had happened he felt so bad he actually called my place from his home! There was a message from him and my husband later returned the call... We have informed him that at this point will be seeking a new doctor for my son... this doctor is my family doctor who takes on babies as well but we informed him we want an actual ped... as they are more specialized in caring for infants etc... he completely understands and we will be using him solely for things like colds etc... anything more than that will be using a ped... the hospital has given us a list of reputable ped available in our area and therefore; today and tomorrow are days for calling to see who is accepting new patients... we are quite happy that our little guy is doing much better, he is certainly enjoying his feedings a lot more and is now showing us some very nice gummy smiles! Again, thanks so much again for your response! I hope that all is well with you and your family...

Sheena- Well, you were a much bigger person toward your doctor than I woud have been. At least he called and apologized, but I think you're smart to use a pediatrician. I bet you are going to be seeing some big-time growth from your little guy! Take care and good luck!

My son had PS and had the surgery when he was 4 weeks old. He is now 4 months old and doing great. He weighed 9pounds at birth and because of the Pyloric Stenosis he dropped down to 7 pounds 8 ounces. Well he was back up to 9 pounds when we left the hospital, we were there for 4 days total, we left the day after his surgery. He now weighs 17 pounds. Kyler, my son, didnt have any complications after the surgery. His weight gain has been great and everything has gone well. I hope things go well with your son too. We had a problem with his doctor as well. She didnt think he had PS and had us change formulas numerous times, but I thought he had PS and eventually took him to the ER because I was scared and they sent us to a children's hospital and sure enough, he had it. I did a ton of research online and new all about it. I am glad he is well now. Good luck to you and your son. I am sure he will gain weight and do great.

Hi Christy and Tabitha... thanks for the the wishes of good luck... Christy: I am already seeing a huge difference in Zachary since the surgery which is great to see...we also found a great ped. who is well known in Ontario actually Canada for that matter. He was a little difficult to get but we managed through our family doctor's referral... apparently they are on the same board with the hospitals here and the university. Tabitha: Thanks so much for your response, its nice to have rea__suring news that more than likely Zachary will gain his weight... I think it's happening already. I know that when we went to the doctor on the Tuesday before his surgery he was about 8.5lbs... he was 7lbs when he was born... by the time we got to Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto he was back down to his 7 lbs and when we left (also four days later) he was back up to 8lbs 3oz... I can almost bet that he has gone up quite a bit since we came home this past Tuesday night... he is eating like he has never eaten before... and now wants it so much that he freaks out if you take it away from him to burp in between... I am happy to hear that your little guy is doing so well after having this procedure and how that he continues to thrive... again, thanks ladies for the wishes of good luck.
