Ok, my son is 4 1/2 months old...for the past few days he has been making these grunting sounds, you know, the sounds they make when they are going poo. Well, he's being making these sounds ALLL DAY LONGG, its an ongoing thing instead of a poo thing. for a couples weeks now we have been giving him 4 oz of oatmeal cereal once a day (mornings) and about 1 tables spoon of 1st baby food solids a day. For the past 3 days his poo has been coming out Dark dark green and thick (not in solid pieced ) still smeared all over diaper but really thick and dark. Could these noised he is making be constipation...or has he just dicovered a new noise that he can make with his mouth...I mean sometimes he is actually smiling when he's makin this noise, im just confused about what it could be.

If he's smiling about it then I doubt it's from constipation.....especially if the poo is smeared (even if it is thick as it is normal to thicken once they start solids...constipation entails hard dry stools that usually is formed in tiny or sometimes even large b___s). He's probably just realized that he can make the noise and is proud of himself! :-)

ethan will be 6 months next week, he is still exclusively b___stfed, about 2 weeks ago he started the continuous grunt as well. I thought maybe he was doing it in discomfort but his bowel movements are still the same. I think it is him just learning a new sound. Im also catching on he does this when he is super annoyed, mad, tired, or hungry, LOL, but not happy !!!
