my dd's napping is very erratic except for the morning nap, she is usually only awake about 2 hours and then needs a nap. i think she is getting close to only 2 naps a day (usually still needs 3) but i was wondering what time in the afternoon do most other little ones take their nap? and, then, what is their bedtime? btw, my dd is 6 months.

I feel like so many moms on here have a set nap schedule and I'm not sure how to accomplish that! My DS's napping is pretty erratic too - no schedule at all. He's 3.5 months old though, so younger than your DD. He definitely naps in the morning, not too long after his first bottle. He'll sleep usually about an hour. Then, throughout the day, he'll nap a couple of times (up to 3), but never usually more than 30-45 minutes at a time. His last bottle is around 9:30 or 10pm and he's asleep for the night right after it (sleeps until 5, 6, sometimes 7am).

My lo's sch is pretty flexible. If we are home she will take an am nap for about 20 min around 9 or 930 ( she wakes up around 6:30-7 am) If I am out walking and she is in the stroller she will sleep 20min -1 hour in the am. Afternoon nap is somewhere between 12:30 and 1:30 usually. She usually will sleep about 2.5 hours.- Bedtime between 6:30 and 7:30. I watch her cues- she gets whiny when she is tired. Unlike most LO my lo can stay awake 3- 4 hours at a time sometimes- other tines she is tired after 2 hours. If I force her to sleep at say 9 a and 1 pm everyday it doesn't work- she may not be tired yet- or just excited about something. For me it works better to make sure she gets an am nap and an afternoon nap when she is tired. My lo is almost 4 months.

jerseygirl, my dd used to take short naps, too, up until about 4 1/2 or 5 months old when she started sleeping on her stomach. since then she naps much longer, 1 to to 2 hours. i just wish she was more on a nap schedule! i dont know how to do it and she screams if i try to get her to nap when she's not ready. she goes to bed between 8-8:30 and wakes up around 7am.

My lo started 2 naps a day at about 6.5 months old. But it depends on how long his 1st morning nap is that dictates whether he may need a 3rd. He us up at 7am and ha his 1st nap at 9am. He will sleep anywhere from 30mins-2hrs. Then his 2nd nap is between 12-1pm. He also sleeps appr. 1-1.5hrs. If his 1st nap was only 3omins then he will have a 3rd nap at around 4-4:30pm. He will sleep for 30-45mins. He is in bed by 7pm. He is 7.5 months old.

DDT, our lo's napping sounds the same, and my dd also wakes about 7am, but she doesn't go to bed until 8-8:30. ok so it sounds like all of our lo's stay awake for longer and longer periods throughout the day, unlike in the morning they all need a nap about 2 hours after waking. no wonder the afternoon/evening is always considered "fussy time"....lol

my ds is 15 wks and has a schedule but it's not rigid. He needs at least 3 naps a day though or else he gets cranky by 6pm. If he can nap while I drive or shop for an hour it's okay. He usually naps around 9-10, 12-1, 3-530. He is in bed btwn 8-9pm. Usually by 830 he is out cold. He kind of set his own schedule when he was around 9wks. I just tried to keep it a little more organized so we would both know what to expect out of the day. It really just takes trial and error and is a guessing game. Every baby is so different it's hard to say what works best.
