How long can the first stage of labor last? (At least 50% effaced and up to 4 cm dialation).

Exactly!! I'm wondering the same thing!

The first stage of labor can last anywhere from 8-12 hours with your first baby...if not more. With my first I was dialated to 1cm for about 3 weeks before. It took from 10pm until 8am the next day just to get to three. Unfortunately it takes a while. This time with my second they say that the total amount for first stage of labor will be my total labor time now. So hopefully this time it will only be like 8-10 hours total for me!

Thanks m! At my 36 week checkup (last week) I was dialated to 1 cm and 50% effaced. I haven't been feeling too many contractions, so I kind of figured it may be awhile longer. So m, when did you know that you started dialating past 1 cm? Did you start to get regular contractions then or start feel any different?
