2 1 2 Cm Dialated No Contractions Inducing Tomorrow

I'm 2 1/2 cm dialated per my Dr.s appt on Tuesday. They are inducing labor tomorrow at about 5:00 in the morning. I have had no contractions that I am aware of. I may have had some but not realized it as I know my mom was the same way with her first pregnancy. She didn't know she was having contractions until about 5minutes apart and even then they never got bad. When they induce, can anyone with experience tell me exactly what they do? Does it delay labor, or if I'm already 2 1/2 cm dialated should it go just as if I'd gone into labor naturally? I'll be 7 days past due at time of induction tomorrow.

Why are they inducing!?! I hope they have given you a serious reason as induction runs its risks to both baby and mother. No it will not be like going into labor naturally. As a matter of fact it can result in just the opposite than what mother nature and your baby had planned for you...

I was induced with my frist. The labor part starts off like if your body was to go in to labor on its on but as the pit get into the system the contraction are harder. Everyones labor is different even if it induced. I'm being induced on Tuesday. Good Luck

skyeblue, I think she is being induced because she will be 7 days overdue, and being overdue can have its own serious risks for the baby and the mother....the placenta stops doing its job after so long so it is best for mother and baby to be induced when you are overdue......also when you are overdue, it can but stress on the baby and there is a risk of meconium in the fluid. ShainaMarie, it is good that you are dilated already, chances are the induction will take better. A lot of doctors don't like to induce if there is no dilation..but just as natural labor, every induciton is different. You may go fast, or you may be in labor for hours.. I don't think it will stall labor because they are pumping drugs into you that cause labor. I was induced with my son w/ pitocin (I didn't need the cervix gel because I was already 3cm and 100% effaced)....I started having contractions immediately, 1.5 hrs after they started the pitocin drip, they broke my water and that is when the contractions got really intense!!....then 1.5 hrs. after that, I started pushing. I will be induced again at 39 weeks if I haven't had my baby by then.....reason being I am a very pet_te girl and my doctor doesn't want me having a large baby. I am 37 weeks now and am already 3cm and about 70% effaced...so I am ready to go!! Good luck and I hope everything goes smoothly for you!
