Ladies, how do i know if I am having contractions? my belly gets really tight at times and it's pretty often. I assumed these were bh. but i read that your docs tell you to call if you have more than 4-6 contractions per hour... how are you supposed to know what's a contraction really

Drink lots of water and make sure you're sitting down. you can cause bh's when you're up and moving. someone else on here said something about laying on your left side? usually if I just sit and rest they go away. if they don't go away they could be real. and unless you're one of those lucky few that have totally painless births you WILL know when you start having contractions.

Drinking water and getting off your feet are great ideas. The water helps get rid of bh. The hormone that causes contractions sometimes builds up when not enough fluid is consumed, that's why you may get more at night cause you're not drinking as much. True labor contractions can't be flushed away with water. And ones that aren't just your uterus practicing (bh) you'll know. For me, they felt like menstrual cramps times 50. And they come at regular intervals. Mine were like clockwork.
