At our first 20 week ultrasound we found out our son had severe hydrops, and his organs were shutting down. We induced, and he was stillborn at 21 weeks. We don't know how or why this happened, and our hurting so much. Anyone else have a similar story, or went on to have healthy pregnancies after?

In Aug 2008 I was overjoyed to find out that i was pregnant. Everything seemed to be going well until my 20 week ultrasound. The abdominal area seemed to be large for gestational age so i was sent for a 4d scan where they confirmed to me that my baby had developed fetal hydrops. The doc on duty casually told me that in any other country i would be offered a termination of the pregnancy at this point, however, where I come from it is not an option. I was to spend the entire 40 weeks and deliver a dying baby!! As I kept growing from week to week i couldn't help but feel that my baby must be suffering and this was all inhumane. Fortunately at 28 weeks i went into labour spontaneously and when I got to the hospital they were doing their utmost to stop my labour saying that this is protocol. I found this to be totally ridiculous! The consultant on duty also wanted me to deliver by c-section as not to stress out the baby who ultimately would pa__s away as his lungs where super underdeveloped and not compatible with life. I fought to deliver naturally and eventually they gave in. They did not manage to stop my labour, they just prolonged it for a few hours. I delivered my angel at 2.00am and he pa__sed 5 minutes later. It was very difficult to go back home literally empty! 5 months later I got pregnant again and today have a beautiful baby girl who is now 6 months old. Reccurent fetal hydrops is extremely rare with only 6 reported cases doc_mented, so i wouldn't worry too much. These are just freak things that happen and most women go on to have a healthy pregnancy. Just feels so much better to share my story and hope I wasn't too blunt about the whole thing. Good luck
