MTHFR Factor V Leiden Delivery Problems

After my first miscarriage, my forward-thinking doctor was proactive enough about my health to order blood tests rather than wait for me to have additional m/c. He discovered that I have both MTHFR and Factor V Leiden and I have been on Lovenox, baby aspirin and Folgard for the last 28 weeks (I'm now 34 weeks). I have read through 90% of the postings in this forum and they have been unbelievably helpful throughout my pregnancy; however, no one has mentioned how MTHFR and/or Factor V come into play during delivery. Is there anything that I should be concerned about? Our doula recently mentioned that it might not be possible for me to have an epidural because of blood-clotting issues and I am wondering what other factors might come into play during L&D. I am 28 and in good health otherwise, and have not been labeled as high-risk at this point. Thank you for any thoughts you can share...

Hi kellia......I have FVL also, however I didn't know I had it until years after my son was born. I had an epidural and a c-section during his birth, so I don't know what the reason is that your doula is saying you can't have an epidural. I do know that there is a problem when taking the Lovenox and you go into labor on your own. That could be a problem. My last pregnancy my OB suggested that I have a scheduled C-section so that I could be off of the Lovenox for a few days and be ok for the birth, but that pregnancy ended in a miscarriage. I wish you lots of luck. KitCat
