Can Blood Tests Be Wrong

On June 15, I started having mild cramping. Two days later I started feeling bloated and having to pee alot, and feeling mildly nausious and generally pregnant. On June 23 I started bleeding and had period-like cramping three days before my period was due. The next day my bleeding was light and then the three days afterwards spotting - this is unusual for me since I have heavier and seven-day periods. The cramping seemed to disappear, but occassionally I still feel bloated and the nausious has increased to dry heaving; especially when brushing my teeth or blowing my nose. I am not peeing as much but more than normal. I have been thirsty all the time and at times get really hungry but can only eat alittle or I become sick to my stomach. I have had about three urine tests and one blood test yesterday, all say neg. But I still feel nausious and bloating at times. Can blood tests be wrong?

Have you found out anything? I am in the same situation. My last period was on the 28 of May and still no sign and it is 10 July. Have taken 4 Home preg. test and 1 blood test at Dr. office. I am having symptoms such as lightheadedness, indigestion, backache, swollen b___st (but not sore), constantly feeling bloated, etc.. Me and my husband have been trying for a year and I do not know if this is wishful thinking, but even though everything says I am not I still believe I am. If I was irregular all the time it would not be so hard for me to swalloe, but this is the first time in my life I have been late. If you have found out anything please let me know..

For the past couple of days I have been feeling as if my period is about to start (tired, bloating, cramping, etc), but my period isn't due until July 19 or so. I will be seeing a doctor on monday and may ask for one more test. The type of blood test we had was probably qualitative rather than quantative, which just gives you a yes or no result rather than measuring the amount level of HCG hormones. So I will let you know.

Went to my new family doctor and did another urine test and it came out negative. So I guess my fiance and I were not sucessful last mont. Who knows there's always this month - lol. I would ask for a quanitative blood test in your case since you haven't had a period. It will measure the exact amount of HCG hormones in your system. Anything over 5 is considered a positive pregnancy. Good Luck.

I am also wondering the same thing. My last period started on the 11th on June and lasted it's usual 7 days. On the 22nd, I started bleeding again only it was very light and only lasted about three days. I have been feeling very nausious and fatigued for the past week accompanied by headaches. I have done two home test and one blood test at the Dr.'s office - all say neg. I did not realize that there were two different types of blood test. I will be calling my Dr.'s office to find out exactly what kind they used. I think maybe I should get another opinion because now my doctor wants to start me on progesterin to start my period. Not sure if I want to do this yet if there is a chance the blood test was wrong. Any information or thoughts would be greatly appreciated...

I have recently discovered that if a women's luteal phase is less than 10 days in length (beginning from the day after ovulation to the day before your period) it is not sufficient time for the fertilized egg to implant itself into the lining of the uterus and thus an early miscarriage arises. This may be caused by coming off the pill and usually corrects itself within months, if not some women may need to take progestron suppliments to prolong their luteal phase. I think this is what happened in my case in June. My luteal phase cycle is only 9 days long. So I have started taking Vitimine B6 to help increase my progestron levels.

Yes. My blood test showed negative so I went to my ob gyn 5 days later and got 2 positive urine tests. I guess I conceived a day before my expected period. I'm now 5 weeks along. The test didn't show positive until I was 2 weeks late.

I am 7 days late, and the urine test that I took was neg. I took the urine test the day after I was late. I really want to be pregnant and I wonder if my mind is playing tricks on me?

I would love to know the answer to that question. I have been trying to get pregnant for five years. This is the first time that I have been more than a day late. I have taken two home tests with negative results. Then I went to the doctor and had a blood test which was negative. My b___sts are extremely tender, I feel mild cramps, and bloated; however I still have not started. My husband swears the blood test is wrong. I have an appointment with a fertility specialist in two weeks to get some answers. I am scared to death that I might be pregnant and something is wrong.

I'm in the same boat as you guys. I'm now 11 days late for my period. I didn't start testing till AFTER I was due for my period and - 5 urine tests and 1 blood test later - all are negative... But I SWEAR I'm pregnant! I've been prego before, so I recognize the symptoms! My last period was June 30th and I always ovulate late. I have never in my life missed a period and have never really been more than a day or two late! I'm looking all over the Internet to find out some stats on the percentage of times quant_tative blood tests are WRONG. (no luck, thou) I read plenty of women who have gone thru this - but then they rarely post to give the answer to what finally ended up happening! Please, someone out there give me some concrete info to go on... Did you end up being pregnant after all of those negative tests...?

Krystina - August 15

I am almost 1 month late for my period.. I ended up going to the ER to see what was wrong.. They said the blood test was negative.. They did a pelvic exam and a v____al ultrasound... They said everything looks fine but they DONT KNOW what is wrong with me.. I have serious stomache aches sometimes... I'm pretty d__n sure I'm not pregnant since the blood test said negative.. But I have heard sometimes they can be wrong...

After four HPT's and one blood test (all negative), I still don't know what's wrong. I am three weeks late and continue to have all the signs of my period coming, but nothing. I don't really have any other symptoms of pregnancy, but I haven't been this late in over ten years (since I was a teenager). My mom keeps saying, "Well, ya know. . . " I know -- blood tests can be wrong. She had nine pregnancies (eight live births), but with me, two blood tests came back negative. She said she had no symptoms except her period being late and she just KNEW she was pregnant. I just want to know what's wrong with me! Frustrated isn't even the word, and my husband is getting tired of putting up with me -- LOL.

ttgg - August 21

i had a blood test done too, it came back negative, and my HPT's were negative but it has only been 1 month since we started trying to get pregnant. I think it was just to earlier to detect it.. Cause i think i am pregnant now but it is just to early to detect the HCG.

I went into my obgyn's office because I started leaking milk. I have a 10 month old baby and I havent been able to b___stfeed her since she was 2 months old. They did a urine test and that showed negative and they sent me for a blood test and that too was negative. My b___sts seem bigger to my DH and myself. I look likeI have a little more bulge then what was there in May. However I have to go in on Monday for my next depo shot and they will weigh me before I get the shot. If I have gained weight I WILL have them retest me. The only time I gain weight is when I am preganant. I have had four preganancys two live births, one Stillborn, and one M/C. All of those time I gained weight. Currently I am only 104 pounds and the only way I have EVER gained weight was being preganant. So If I have gained weight and the doc tests me and it says negative. I will wait on the depo shot. As the M/C I had happened when I was on the depo. I don't want to take a chance of being preganant and taking another shot of depo!

Ok - I posted here on August 11th and I promised myself that I'd follow-up because I HATE when people post and then never let us know what happens!! I never got my period in July (last one was June 30th) - and I FINALLY got it on Sun - August 22nd. My doctor suspected I was inovulatory - so I think b/c I was stressing the week I was to ovulate - maybe that caused the whole skipping thing. Regardless, I'd really recommend everyone reading "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" -- it really helped me understand how the whole cycle works and how to figure out when I'm fertile. To be honest, it should be required reading for all High School girls. It's sad that we don't have a better understanding of our bodies. Good luck everyone!

Mary - September 5

I had my period a week ago and it was awful, bad cramps and extremely gross blood clotting. I went to the doctor 3 days ago because I started spotting again and I had a positive serum pregnancy test, how can that be?

melody - September 6

I am 10 days late and I am having some cramping then it goes away. I have had 2 urine test and 1 blood test all showed negative. I have been a week late before but never more that that. My husband and I have been trying for about 10 months now. I had a baby 3 years ago and I have all the same syptoms as before it is so frustrating. My doctor is wanting to put me on provera, but I don't want to just incase the blood test was wrong. I will update later I am going on Friday to take another test.
