2ww Of A Different Kind

For those of you who don't know, I had a positive quad screen for Down Syndrome, and 2 soft markers on a level II ultrasound; choroid plexus cyst and echogenic bowel. My dh and I decided to forgo the genetic counseling and go right for the amnio. Well I had the amnio yesterday. It was a strange experience to say the least. A lot of people told me it was like having blood taken, but it didn't feel that way to me. Thankfully it was over quick. Now I am in another 2ww to find out the results. I should get the results in 10 days, but it could take 2 weeks. I'm very relieved that I got through the amnio, and I actually enjoyed laying in bed and doing nothing for 24 hours. For the first time in a long time I feel rested. I just wanted to let you guys know how I was doing. Thanks for all the support so far.

I glad that your testing itself went well and I will keep my fingers crossed for you and your little one. I can't believe that they can't get results to you sooner than that though.

I hope the best for you and your baby, and I will say a pray for a happy outcome.

Maggie, Im sure the wait is difficult. But as I always say "it is what it is"...i send you lots of good luck. I just got a positive on my AFP today..with a 1:10 ratio for chromosomal abnormalities. They bumped my level 2 u/s to Monday, w/a possible amnio depending on the level 2. So I may be in the same boat soon! Strangly Im calm about it. I hope thats a good thing. I will post my news on monday...I hope you post your results as well. Best of luck to you~!

Maggie, I just went through some similar things myself. At my 20 wk u/s they found a soft marker for Downs. It was an echogenic foci spot on the babies heart. When I went to a specialist, tho my risk should be low, they couldn't say for sure bc the spot was larger then they had ever seen and the baby was measuring small also. I have been worried sick for 2 wks and now have another 2wks to go before we can get any definitive answers. I know right now not much eases a worrying mother but I can tell you that the Quad screens do have a high rate of false positives and unfortunately in my case false negatives as well. They are just a basis for finding chromosomal abnormalitie but are not always accurate. Please try not to worry too much (i know easier said then done) and I am sending out lots of blessings to you and your baby. I have my fingers crossed for you.

Maggie, I also had a failed quad screen. I was to a perinatologist for the level II u/s and my baby did not have any markers for d/s. He did find a spot on her bowel that he called a blockage...what is echogenic bowel?? He did not seem to worried about thr spot on the babys bowel, but wanted me to come back in a month to see if the spot is still there.

Thanks for all the support ladies! It is so great to have an outlet that I can vent. Jendean00, echogenic bowel is when the bowel has a white appearance on the u/s. Usually bone appears white, while organs are much darker. It could signal a blockage, chromosomal abnormality, malformation, or that the baby swallowed amnio fluid. It is also a soft marker for Down's. I'm hoping that the baby just swallowed some fluid. I have another level II on 02/23 to see if it is still there. The hope I'm hanging on to is that all of my babies long bones are measuring correctly, and he has a nasal bone. All of my docs are hopeful that everything will turn out alright. I'm also Catholic so I believe that God will never put anything before me that I cannot handle. I already feel such a powerful bond with this baby.

Good luck Maggie, mine is scheduled for march 5th to see if it is still there. My Doc said she could have swallowed some amiotic fluid and it pooled in her bowel. I am hoping that is what it is. Keep us posted on how it goes and I will do the same.

Ladies, Please keep me updated on what happens w/ your future Dr's visits. It makes us all better to know what is happening w/ our soft markers. But remember to enjoy these moments. They are all too fleeting:)

Good luck Maggie - I'm sending out positive thoughts to you and your little one!

Hi ladies...well I just got back from my level II u/s...remember I had AFP of 1:10...so I have been pretty worried. My u/s looked great..no markers...baby measured as it should. So i opted not to get the amnio. I am so relieved!! I will go back in 5 wks for another peek, but I feel pretty good. Im so relieved it has all the right parts, 10 fingers, 10toes..and its a GIRL! Maggie, Im sure your results are going to be positive as well. Thx for the good thoughts everyone.

YEAH suze42!!!!! I'm so glad that everything is great with your little girl! There's turning out to be about an even number of girls and boys with this group. Again...I'm glad that everything is great!

Maggie, just wanted to say that my thoughts and prayers are with you. I had a quad screen of 1:10 for DS, but fortunately no soft markers for DS on two level 2 u/s. Waiting is awful, but know there are a lot of people thinking about you. Take Care - Suze42 - YIPPEE I just posted a question on the >35 board asking about your u/s. Glad to hear things went well.

TamaraAngel - February 12

Oh Suze - What a relief! Congrats on your baby girl!!!

Maggie - February 15

Well everyone I have terrific news, my amnio came back NORMAL!!!!! I will still see the peri every 2 weeks to keep an eye on the CPC and echogenic bowel, but my OB said that I really should not worry. I also know for certain now that I am having a boy. Thanks for all the prayer and support.
