Asking For An Ultrasound

I was just wondering if any of you had dealt with this. I had an ultrasound at 20 Weeks that said the baby was girl and everything was healthy. My doctors office doesn't do an ultrasound typically in the 3rd trimester, however my insurance pays for one. I would love to have a little verification that the baby is a girl (as one picure has me questioning :) ) and just see that everything is good one more time. My insurance covers an ultrasound in the 3rd trimester, so I wouldn't be out anything.. Do you think it's stupid to ask for one?

they wont do it. even because your ins pays for one the DR. needs to put down a reason for the us so that they insurance will pay for it. (they wont pay for "just wanted to see the baby again") I had alot in the end due to high bp but usually they wont do it even if you ask.

I'm not sure about that though, because my insurance company said that they cover one ultrasound per trimester, they didn't need a reason. Yeah, I didn't know if the doctors office would do it or not.

I called my doctor about a pain I was having (turned out to be a fibroid). They did an ultrasound without questioning it. I'm 20 weeks along and so far have had 4 ultrasounds. (Once on the advice of the ER doctor due to excessive vomitting, one because a student kicked me in the stomach, one for the pain/fibroid, and a level 2 due to my age) I'd call my doctor and ask about it. They may not do it, but it would be worth a try.

its worth asking your doctor. I asked mine today i had my 20 weeks US yesterday and she said unless there is a reason they dont do another US. Thats ok thought we have an appt in July for a 4D ultrasound. Its 200$ but a 30 minute session (includes 30 minute dvd of US, picstures in black and white and color and a cd-rom of all pics.) its a 4 hour drive but im really excited.

If you want another one, just ask. My insurance will pay for as many as I want. My doc said she will do one once a month since my insurance will pay for them. What is the worst they can say, no. It is worth asking!

Hey, I don't know how you all go for so long with out a scan?? I get a scan every 2-4weeks, I am only 20 weeks pregnant now and have already had 8 scans, I go back on the 6th June for another scan and again on the 7th June for my 'Big Scan'.. I guess in the UK cos everything is free its no big deal... I just can't imagine having to 'pay' for medical treatment or insurance, I have read a lot about women whos insurance won't cover them for certain things and I just think its awful to have the worry of that aswell as the pregnancy, Just out of curosity what would happen if someone needed an operation or tratment but had no insurance or no means to purchase insurance?? Would they get turned down?

i get an ultrasound every time... im 14 weeks and have had 2 so far and another tomorrow.

My doctors only does one ultrasound at 20 weeks (as long as everything is healthy they dont do another one) I had to beg for one at 10 weeks and they said they would do it because my Ins accpets size and dates as a reason. It sucks but thats ok. I am traveling 4 hours to get a 4d scan at 28 weeks. Im really excited.

Mandy, I think it depends on the hospital. I think legally they have to take you in in an emergency, but you will have to pay the entire hospital bill. Some hospitals will give you a discount, kind of like a charity thing. I know my eye doctor gave me an uninsured discount when I had to have my eyes examined and my insurance wouldn't cover it. Most people here can get insurance through there employer, or can get it through the government or other private insurance, unless they can't afford that either. Hope that helps!
