Irregular Fetal Heartbeat

I am 20 wks pregnant and had my ultrasound days ago. Shockingly, they told me the fetal heartbeat was only 70 for the first 20 minutes and then back to 160 in the last 5 minutes. Otherwise , evething else is fine. I went back to my midwife and listened to the heartbeat again for a longer time. It was normal then suddenly dropped down really low and back up again. The midwife said she cannot give any advice. So i am paying fortunue to see a private speciliast next week. I am really worried if i will have an unhealthy baby or intellectually slow baby. this is my first baby.

Honor, I wish I had an answer for you. I know that heart rate decreases when you sleep but I don't know if it would halve in a baby. Have they ruled out the lower heart rate being yours as that is about right for a healthy adult? Maybe the baby moved and they picked up yours instead. I think you're doing the right thing seeing a specialist. It'll be worth it to put your mind at rest and if there is a problem they can monitor it closely and be ready for when you give birth. I wish you all the luck in the world and please let us know what happens. Take care.

I dont think that you child will be intellectually slow......intellect has nothing to do with how fast or slow the heart beats. Did they see anything wrong with the heart in the ultrasound?? Good luck, keep us updated
