Have any of you ladies had this done? I have to get one done because I lost my other 3 pregnancies to miscarriage and took progestone my 1st trimester. What is it like? Thanks for the info.

I think Level II ultrasounds are pretty standard these days. I had one around 19 weeks (I'm now 31 weeks.). Basically you lay on a table and the doctor moves a wand (looks like a microphone) over your belly. They measure lots of different things like femur size. They also look in the chambers of the heart and examine the spine. A level II ultrasound can also detect some birth defects. They should also be able to tell you the s_x of the baby....if it is positioned right. Mine only took about 15-20 minutes....and it was a wonderful experience! Good Luck!

They are the same as any other ultrasound - the only difference is the equipment is more sensitive, therefore able to pick up on things regular machines cannot and many things (like blood flow and amniotic fluid) are seen in color. A Level II lasts longer and while the tech is doing the US, the doctor is in his office seeing the exact same test on his computer screen. After the tech is done, the doctor will come to scan you himself and tell you what, if anything, they have found. I have had numerous ones done by different Perinatologists and it always seems to be the same routine. Some make you have a full bladder - which is pretty uncomfortable after the first 20 minutes, but lately it seems as though they want the baldder emptied. No matter what - be prepared for a long wait. Due to the nature of what they do, sometimes it requires patience. Good luck to you and I hope all is well!
