Soft Cervix

I'm a little bit freaked out at the moment. I am currently 21 weeks and did a cervical check a couple of days ago and my cervix was extremely soft. Checked again yesterday morning, still soft, checked again this afternoon and STILL extremely soft. So, its not the time of day and its not just one particular day. I don't know what to think. Is it a sign of a possible incompetent cervix? I have an appointment with my doctor in a week. Is it safe to wait that long to talk to her about it?

Hi ChattyKathy. First of all, don't freak out. Secondly, how do you know that your cervix is soft? Have you been checking it everyday since the beginning to compare? Before you self-diagnose, you should definitely call your doctor. I would not wait a week. Good luck, I hope everything works out ok.

It is squishy to the touch. Its Obviously soft even if I hadn't been checking it before. But yes, I was TTC and did regular cervical checks before I got pregnant and many in the first trimester. I don't know if I am jumping to conclusions or not, but it does feel shorter than it did when it was low and firm, but that could be positioning maybe? Either way I do think I'm going to call my doctor on monday or tuesday and just try to take it easy this weekend if I can, I just want to know your opinions. Thanks!

hey kathy, my cervix is also soft and squishy and even with my ob's observation he thought it was a little too soft and short...BUT, after many ultrasounds the conclusion is that it's longer inside than it is outside and even though it's soft its closed. -my case is different as i began my pregnancy with my cervix partially open, but as time went out my cervix lengthened and closed. not every is the same and i don't know if this helps. but my ob says my cervix is fine even though it is soft.
