I dont think my ob has done any test on my progesterone levels and HCG. Iam 19 week and have a cerclage on me. I would like to know if i would be needing progestrone shots.

Later in pregnancy women who are at high risk for pre term labor get them. I will be recieving them weekly starting at week 16. Ouch :)

I think I get mine in the b___t. I heard the oil in the shot is really thick and thats what really hurts, yikes. I will be recieving 17p shots, I think they are different than what you got. I will get them weeks 16-36.

I had to do the PIO (progesterone in oil) for my IVF injections if thats what you have to do let me know i can give you injection advice to make it a little easier.

Thanks Robyn. I see my perinatologist again on December 6th so I will ask him to clarify it for me then. Oh, one question, did you have to five yourself your shots, or did your dh have to do them? I was terrified of that, I hate needles to begin with. But then my doc told me that HE will be doing all the injections himself, thank God.

No my DH did my PIO injections the needle was 1 1/2 " long and i couldnt bare to even look at let alone inject it. All my other injections for the IVF i did myself they were in my stomach and subcutaneous so they didnt hurt. Your lucky your doc is gonna do the injections.

Geesh I hope the needle isn't that freaking long!! I'm hoping it's just like a flu shot . . . Probably not!! Heheh wishful thinking never hurts :)

If its intramuscular it might be i hope not for your case. LOL. Yeah you need to find out now i am curious for you LOL

Hey Robyn, where excatly do intramuscular shots go? I'm certain mine are going in the hip or the b___t. I just don't know which one yet. I'm soooooo curious now too! I can't wait until Dec. 6th to ask my doc!! So your all done with all your shots right?

ROBYN - November 29

Dont kill me but hip and b___t for intramuscular LOL. Yeah i have been done since August 20th but whose counting. It was the longest 12 weeks of my life. I am 26 weeks now i just had to do it till the placenta kicked in at 12 weeks. How many weeks are you now?

ShoppingForTwo - November 29

Noooooooooo!! Lol :) I'm 9w1d. I will get them weeks 16-37. I'm sure they are a different mixed than yours since mine are to prevent preterm labor but OUCH! They will probably use the same type of needle. Intramuscular OUCH! I'm glad I met you! You lived to tell about it, help me! :)

I meant weeks 16-36. That's TWENTY shots!!!! Aaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Do you think there is a chance that the progestrone is different so it will hurt less? Please say yes.

First of all i am LMAO you are too funny. Second PLEASE DONT KILL ME but i just googled what kind of progesterone is used for preventing pre-term labor and so all these websites come up and PIO comes up as the injection used AND THE DESCRIPTION of the 1 1/2" needle. I think you are going to be doing the PIO sweety. But i am sure you will get a better answer on the 6th. As for the injections they dont hurt in the beginning like the first 2 or 3 its when it becomes an everyday event you have to alternate b___t cheeks or hips which ever you choose to do them. The do get knots in the injection sites and bruising honestly its quite uncomfortable but lets see if you have actually do the PIO first then i have some advice like i mentioned.

ShoppingForTwo - November 29

Ohmigosh!! I'm going to kill you!! Your probably right, I read on marchofdimes dot com that the oil it what causes the ouchy-ness. Noooooooo. . . .

The whole needle doesn't go in right?! Because I was explaining to my doc that I was nervous about getting a spinal because I heard the needle is HUGE and he said it's only long incase they need to use a little more of it. Since the little needle doesn't work for every one and they would hate to stick them twice. He could have been lying to make me feel better though.

ROBYN - November 29

Ummmm YES the whole needle goes in thats how we are taught in IVF when we do the injections i am sorry to tell you that also have your injections in you a__s cheek this way you wont see it. Its got to penetrate the muscle for it to do what it needs to do. ): ): ): FORGIVE ME LOL
