CONCEPTION QUESTION AND SOME XTRA STUFF

Good morning, ladies and gents (if any). When you determine your conception date, is that the day you actually have s_x to make the baby or is it calculated from when the sperm implants? Did that make sense? I ask because I finally figured something major out from my pregancy with my daughter. I got my military records. My expected due date was about 9/29/2000, I didin't know my conception date at that time so I just used mymonthlycycles.com to calculate and it said about 1/7/2000 which makes perfect sense to me..I remember having an argument with my daughter's dad about s_x 1/9/2000, my sis's birthday! My cycle has always been 32 days, which means I ovulated on CD15 at that time. Can it change now? My cycle is still 32 days but I think I missed it for this month b/c I had ov bleeding on cd16:( I didn't bd until I saw the blood, not the day or 2 before. Do I still have hope?

Your conception date is the day you ovulate (because there likely is sperm in your fallopian tubes waiting for it). When you temp, I read that that progesterone raises the temperature slighly about 2 days after ovulation. (I myself originally thought temps raised right after the egg was released that same day, but I guess it takes time to acc_mulate in the blood and raise the temp for the sustained increase.) I use a monitor and it calculated my LH surge one day before and the day of my temperature rise. Just sharing my experience with you. I hope this helps.

Thanks a lot, linds. I understand now, that makes sense. What do you think about me possibly missing ov b/c I had s_x when I saw the spotting blood, not before? Dr. already told me they can't tell if I ov before or after that blood. I just want opinions...anyone?

In terms of ovulation bleeding, I think that would be when the egg bursts through the follicle. (Although, this girl I've been chattting with says her doctor believes ovulation spotting is such a rarity and that blood or spottting would most likely be a__sociated with a cyst or polyp.) But if it was ovulation spotting and it was pink or reddish and it was "fresh" spotting I would think that the egg was released that day. However, if the spotting was more brownish and old, maybe it occurred sooner than that...not quite sure. From my experience, my ovulation date has shifted two days (either earlier or later) for the last several months, always aroung CD 20-24, but I may be different than you since I've never been on birth control or anything like that. Have you experienced pain with the blood you got?

LadyD - May 12

No pain at all. It actually surprised me b/c I just came in from a club, was peeing and getting ready to bd and only saw it when I wiped. It completely caught me off guard. It was kind of bright red so I doubt it was old. I went to bed and woke up a few hrs. later and there were about 3-4 drops in my panties which I've never seen before except for the month before too. In March I saw the same blood on cd10, but that threw me off b/c my luteal phase would've been over 20 days..this is driving me nuts! I haven't seen blood since 4/29. If it were a cyst or something, would I see more blood or see it again at a different time during my cycle? I haven't been on bc in over 3 yrs so it's not due to that.

The girl I was talking to on this forum-HopefulMommy- got pink stuff when she wiped on CD 8 and nothing after that. She went to the doctor two weeks later and they found a cyst on her ovary that was attributed to the spotting she had when she wiped. The only reason why I bring up the cyst issue is that many women have them and don't feel it or know that they have one, but sometimes there is slight blood caused when the cyst or polyp disataches or burts. Have you ever had your ovaries looked at via a sonogram? I could be wrong, but I would think that the mid-cycle spotting would get me curious to find out what exactly would be causing it, whether in fact it is ovulation spotting or not. What do you think?

good questions - i saw you on another thread - i also had O spotting and bleeding this month but yet i had my most fertile-looking CM a few days after it started. it really confused me but I know we bd'd at every possible step of the way so i'm just going to see whether AF shows (due on May 18). i spoke to two dr.s about the spotting/bleeding and they were totally unconcerned. I've never had cysts show up on an ultrasound (have had plenty of them with 2 miscarriages under my belt - ugh!) and haven't had any pain.

LadyD - May 12

I've never had my ovaries looked at. I am going to make an appt after af comes, hopefully it won't. Chandellina, I noticed fertile cm on cd20, so maybe it was an early warning but with my luck, that sperm did not live that long. When me and dh bd'd after I saw that blood, he thought he was a p___n star, if you catch my drift....LOL. That's why I am so concerned with hoping 4/29 was the day, or day or 2 before I ov'd. My dr. didn't even begin to mention a cyst, I had a pap recently so maybe that was perfectly fine, so I don't think she is too concerned, but I will definetely be going to see her very soon.

Hey LadyD, just to reiterate that it could still be ovulation spotting that you have, but I just want to make sure that you "watch" other things to make sure it isn't a cyst that could be preventing you from getting preggers. I hope you don't have a cyst that caused it and I hope you did have ovulation that day. Here is somthing I just found I wanted to share with you: To be fruitful and multiply, you must have s_xual intercourse during the period spanning 72 hours before ovulation to about 24 hours afterward. The reason -- sperm cells can live for 72 hours, but an egg survives no more than 24 hours after ovulation. Unless, of course, fertilization occurs.

I also just read this: "exactly when a woman ovulates in any given cycle isn't always easy to predict. It depends in part on the length of your menstrual cycle, although recent research has shown that the 'window' of ovulation can vary more than was once thought, even when your menstrual cycles are regular." Sooo, good news for you in a way LadyD.

Thanks a lot Linds. You have been very helpful. Don't you just wish you could tell the exact day of ov. It would be so much easier. I know you are supposed to do it about 2 days before and after just in case, but I was a lil tired and wasn't really thinking about it, this ttc thing is more work than I do AT work...lol. I am starting to think I should just wait and conceive the way I had my daughter...."um, I'm pregnant? Huh?" LOL..LMAO.

linds99 - May 12

I'm feelin the same way you are darling. This TTC is turning into a second job for me with the temping, seeing doctors, checking urine tests, I just want to jump off a bridge into a river filled with sperm (either my DH's or Pierce Brosnan's) :)and swim in it for a month because I think that is the only fricken way I would have my mind at ease that I actually ovulated and sperm was there! YOu are lucky you had an oops pregnancy because at least you know you can get pregnant, right now I am walking around in doom and gloom thinking soemthing is wrong with everything about me. I'll pray for the both of us that something happens this month. (Even though I ovulated yesterday and got my temp spike today and got into a huge fight with DH yesterday so I may again have missed ovulation. So it may be over for me this month and now I wait for AF.)

LadyD - May 12

I'm sorry to hear that u may have missed but have some make- up s_x just in case..lol. I honestly don't temp and all that..yet. I hope I don't have to go that far, I am gonna keep trying the old fashion way for a lil while longer, just do it. What CD are you on?

linds99 - May 12

I am on CD 20, so AF is due May 24. I know, so late in my cycle to ovulate...but I am working on it with my doctor to maybe speed it up a few days. Make up s_x sounds good, but now I am not in the mood. My irritibility around ovulation is so ironic, isn't that the time you are supposed to "attract a mate" not deflect and abuse your mate? I wish I could do it the old fashion way, but now i am addicted to temping for some reason...I think it gratifys me to know that I have phases and that things are going on and I am watching it. I also read too that if you can determine ovulation and get pregnant, the doctors give you a better due date and are less likely to be induced (because they guessed wrong). I don't know, you may be right, the old fashion way seems less stressful in some ways.

LadyD - May 12

I know what you mean. I am fascinated with learning about my body, although I haven't done all the additional stuff as of yet. I am hoping I don't have to use opk's and check temps. It's time consuming and frustrating. I am kind of a spoiled brat, what I want, I want now, I don't want to have to wait, watch, and all that good stuff. I figure if I am not pg in about 2-3 mths, I'll start with the opk's and temping. As of now, just straight s_x...lol. Let me ask u a question. When af is due, does the area above above your v____a get "heavy?" I don't consider my stomach bloated b/c more than likely I would'nt feel good with it, I peed and it still feels the same. What u think?

linds99 - May 12

Ya, a little bit. You might have it more prevelant than me because you have already have has a child and it does change your stomach muscles a bit, but I tend to get weird pains in my upper inner thigh where my groin muscles are more than anywhere else. You said you don't feel bloated? But it could still be water retention that you are talking about. All women get it, especially if you're salt levels are higher.
