Just When I Was Thinking I Understood My Body

Hi ladies. I haven't been around for awhile due to modem problems and still probably won't be for a few more days, but I had a quick opportunity to visit the site this evening. I just thought I'd take that opportunity to VENT! Man, just when I thought my body couldn't throw me for a loop - after monitoring the damn thing ridiculously closely for 9 months - it throws me this doozy. Check it out: I've got an approximately 28 day cycle and normally ovulate on cd 12-ish with a 15 or 16 day luteal phase. I expected to ovulate as usual this month on cd 12. I only temped a couple times before ovulation, and the last time was on cd 7. Both times my temp was 98.0, which is a relatively normal follicular phase temp for me. I didn't bother temping again until cd 13, because I knew I'd be doing a lot of bd-ing in the time in between, and I just wanted to confirm at that point that ovulation had indeed occurred. Sure enough, my temp was 98.6 (usual for my luteal phase temps) and stayed that way - until yesterday (cd 21!). So on cd 20, which I *thought* was 8 dpo, I noticed some blood when I checked my cervix. I thought, no way, am I going to be one of the few who have implantation bleeding? So I waited. The next morning I awoke, and my temp had dropped from 98.6 down to 98.0. When I went to the bathroom, I discovered the start of a full-fledged period! The bleeding wasn't particularly heavy, but it's just as substantial as my very light periods have been for the past 9 months. The really crushing blow came this morning, when my temp was once again 98.0 for a second day. The bleeding seems to be petering out, but that's how all my periods have been since I quit the pill - only 1-3 days long. WTF?!? So, if I ovulated at the expected time (cd 12) - which is the latest it could have been based on my elevated temp on cd 13 (I didn't temp at all between cd 7 and cd 13) - then I had an insanely short luteal phase of only 8 days. Alternatively, if I ovulated as early as the last time I temped with a low temp, cd 7, then I BOTH ovulated *really* early AND had the shortest luteal phase I've ever had of 13 days! Aaaaarrrrgghhh! Damn this body of mine!

Lin, this is exactly what happened to me last month! I couldn't figure it out. I had a 21 day cycle. I had a 9 day luteal phase according to fertilityfriend. I didn't understand that at all. I didn't O until CD20 this cycle, and I'm only 6DPO, but I'll let you know if I have a 9 day luteal phase again. If you figure anything out, let me know.

Have you had a short luteal phase like that before? I haven't. In fact, the last month that we were ttc (we took a couple months off), my luteal phase was actually 18 days long! I didn't pay attention during the two months off, but man, these last couple months of charting have really driven me nuts!

Isn't it amazing how annoying our bodies can be sometimes? The last few months i've had all these different body changes never experienced before so i think..Hey this is wierd and it's never happened before..i must be pregnant..Ummm nope! Like for this month for instance..i got lots of heartburn that i NEVER get but i'm sure it's just another annoying thing that my body is doing.

Yeah, my body went most nuts in the first four or so months after quitting the pill, and I swear I had every symptom in the book. It seems to have regulated itself a bit now, but then suddenly the 18 day luteal phase and now this really short one so many months later. I guess that just goes to show how unpredictable our bodies can be!
