ok heres my question. i just read off a web site that you can use real egg whites to help concieve. it said to remove the yolk and leave the whites out for 1 hour then insert it inside of you. what is this for? and when is the best time to do that? on the ovulation day? or the fertile days? does anyone know? and has anyone ever heard of this before?

Amy, this sounds like a really really bad idea! Please don't try it.

By coincidence I was reading about this on another (Australian) forum this morning - it said: "The real egg white thing is widely debated... Toni Weshcler in her book Taking Control of Your Fertility recommends it, and I have read about it on other sites (mostly US sites). I investigated it myself and asked a GP friend of mine her medical opinion, & also my OB. The both said pretty much the same thing: "There is no scientific proof, but as long as everything is scrupulously clean, & you minimise the risk of infection, it can't hurt to try". Real egg whites replicate the same consistency as cervical mucus, and have a very neautral ph balance, which helps sperm get to the right place. So, used in conjunction with charting/OPK's, so that you are maximising your BD timing with ovulation, egg whites MIGHT help in conception. Below are some "instructions" that summarise what you need to do: always make sure that everything you use is scrupulously clean. ~ Take a fresh egg ~ Leave it out to allow it to get to room temp ~ Crack it open and separate the yolk from the white ~ Mix the egg white up a bit to "break it up" with a clean fork ~ Use a pippette or a mini baster to collect about 15ml of egg white ~ Insert into the v____a ~ BD straight away ~ Pray you don't get an infection ~ Wait 2 weeks and pray you get a BFP! It goes without saying that you should check with your Dr if you are at all unsure of this method."

I am quite stunned.. so you can really do this! Still, the infection part of it is quite worrying.. doesn't sound like anything I would recommend. I wonder if anyone here tried it and got a bfp??

IF YOU DO THIS PLEASE MAKE SURE THE EGGS ARE PASTURIZED FREE OF BACTERIA. THIS IS RECOMMENDED FOR WOMEN WITH POOR QUALITY CERVICAL MUCUS. YOU NEED TO BE VERY CAREFUL.

There are doctors who recommend this but I have yet to find any major studies that support this. Lots of maybe and go ahead and try its... I'll keep looking though. If you do try this I would suggest buying the pasteurized eggwhites in a carton as opposed to cracking the egg yourself. It just seems more safe to use the pasturized stuff. If you are still worried about infection there is the sperm friendly lubricant Pre-Seed that we were talking about in another thread. I think the website is ingfertility.com and you can locate a store near you where they sell it.

Hanna, re the infection risk, a later post explained that that was a possibility (slight) if the egg wasn't fresh or the equipment you used wasn't very clean. What KD suggested about using pasteurised eggwhites would probably be a good option if you were going to try it.
