I'm 15 and my bf is 20. I want our baby to have his last name, but if he signs the birth certificate will the state go after him? i'm in south carolina

You might want to wait and add it once you are at the age of consent. Im not clear on the laws in SC but i do know you can always change the last name to the fathers name if he is willing.

I was looking up the laws in South Carolina. As of 2001, you could have s_x legally with your parents' consent at age 14, or at age 16 without your parents' consent. Since you're older than 14, I would a__sume that means the state would only go after him if your parents decided to make trouble. There are a lot of good reasons for putting his name on the birth certificate. First, all kids should know who their father is. Second, if he puts his name on the birth certificate and you need to get child support, basically he's already agreed that he is the father. Third, if he died his child would be eligible for any life insurance he had and for social security.
