28 Wks 2cm Dialated

I rushed to the hospital on Thursday as I was having some contractions. I thought they were no big deal, just BH well as it turns out I was 2cm dialated! I was NOT expecting this so early on. They gave me Brethine and I am now on bedrest. I am scared to death at this point. This is my 3rd and I wasn't even 2 cm dialated with #2 until late in my 8th month! And he was about 4-5 weeks early. Does this seem the 'norm' in moms who have had several babies already? I am scared to even use the br in fear of the baby coming out or something. As silly as that may sound I am just in an unfamiliar place right now as I have never dialated so early on. I just figured if I could dialate to 2 and barely feel it, then whos to say I can't go to 4 or 5 in a week? I am freaking out and just looking for any type of advise or comfort I can find.

I don't have much advise for you...I have never had children and don't know what to expect for you. What have the docs told you or have they advised you at all? I am 28w as well and my family has a very high rate of going at 30 weeks, so I am having my cervix checked this wed....please keep in touch and let us know how you are doing. Rest and take care of yourself. Good luck to you and your baby..

Try not to worry.. my sister was dialated to 3 cm's very very early on in her pregnancy. She had the entire thing that you did.. and they put her on bedrest. Even though she was dialated to 3cm.. and was 75percent effaced so early on, she went on to become 2 weeks overdue. Same with my dh's friend. She also had the same scenario and she had to be induced at 2 weeks overdue. Try to relax and follow doctors orders, chances are you have lots of time. ~Kristin~

I am not sure about your situation but it seems to me that worrying adds so much extra stress. Take it easy and try to do something to keep your mind off of thinking about things. I constantly thought about my pregnancy with my 1st pregnancy and had a miscarriage. Not that I didn't think about it much with this one and my last one but I keep faith and trust the Lord. Good luck and God Bless!

My friends sister also had this problem - she was diagnosed at 24weeks with being 4cms dilated, her waters were intact and she went 10days over and delivered a 9lb15oz baby! Bedrest is the bst thing for now to try and give the cervix a break. Try and take it easy. I know easier said than done as I spent a week in hospital at 28weeks with suspected pre-term labour. They shot me full of steroids to allow the babies lungs to develop quicker and all seemed well. I am still contracting now regularly but nothing is changing and they let me home. This is my fourth baby - 1st came at 34weeks, 2nd at 40weeks and 3rd was induced at 37weeks. You cervix after having children is always slightly open a fingertip - 1cm wide. The fact you have had a previous early delivery makes the chances of you going early again higher. If anything changes, bleeding, stronger or different feeling contractions, waters going, or something just doesn't 'feel right' get checked over again. Obviously every day counts but at this stage the rate of survival is very high. Good luck sweetheart and I hope you get to term!

Thanks so much ladies. I am at ease now especially since I haven't felt any contractions the last few days. I have a tendancy of over excerting myself and doing too much so this is definetly a change in pace, but i will do whatever it takes to make sure this baby stays put for the next few weeks!
