I went to my dr appointment yesterday, and she checked my cervix, I'm 1 cm dialated and 70% effaced, does that mean I could go early....or is it pretty normal?

I've heard of women at 36 weeks being at 2 cm, and they've gone to their due date. Every woman is different though, so you really never know.

unfortunately it doesn't mean that you'll have your baby early but it is nice to know that you're making progress and eventually you'll have a baby :) it's just one more thing for us pregnant women to worry about!

it really doesn't give any indication as to when you will go into labor, all it really means is that when you do go into labor, your body is already done doing part of the work! At my 36w check up when I was preggo w/ my son, I was 3cm and 100% effaced....and I still was induced at 39 weeks (I was induced because I was HUGE and my doctor didn't want me having a big baby because I'm a small girl)..woman can walk around for weeks being dialated and effaced.

sadly it doesnt mean anything, my last preg at 36bweeks I was 2 cm dialated anddidnt have my dd until 42 weeks. sorry.

My sister has been 2 cm dialated and 50 percent effaced since 34 weeks.. and TODAY she is 41 weeks and 3 days pregnant.. STILL NO BABY. She is being induced on Thursday.. it really doesnt mean a whole lot.. u can go a long time without giving me birth.. try not to worry. ~Kristin~

Thanks everyone for your answers! I guess I'm a little disappointed that it doesn't mean I'll go early, but on the other hand, I'm probably not completely ready for the baby yet anyway, there's probably a ton of things I still need to get done!
