3D 4D U S At 32 Weeks

My doctor's office has a 3D/4D u/s machine and will allow the exam from weeks 28-32. I've had friends tell me to wait as long as possible (closer to the 32 wk mark) so my baby will look more "human" and closer to how she'll look when born. So I scheduled my scan 2 days shy of 32 weeks. But my dr told me, "you're waiting a little late to have it done!" and said the pics will either be REAL good or she'll be too big to give us good pics. Just wondering your experiences. I don't want to change my appt but still have time to if you think it would be a safer bet!! Thanks!

Hi Tirsh! I had my 3D/4D scan between 24-26 weeks (I forgot the exact week). The tech said if I waited longer she wouldn't be able to get a clear shot because somehow she needed space from the wall and the baby. My baby's face was always next to the placenta but she was able to take a good picture. THe scan took us 2 hours. She made me drink orange juice and walk around after the first try so that the baby will move. Check out my site to see the scan http://marie1104.piczo.com

Hi Trish, I don't mean to disappoint you, but I was told the same thing as you, so I waited until I hit 32 wks with the 4D u/s, and what a disappointment it was!! He was already too big, so his face was pushed into the uterine wall (or the placenta - can't remember anymore), point is, we could hardly make out any features...The only thing we had a clear shot of was 'proof' that he is a boy...The sonographer said I should have come earlier, possibly around 27-29 wks to see some better results...Maybe this was just my case, hopefully you'll be able to see a lot more - let us know!

i had my 3d u/s done at 27 weeks.. and it was perfect. i've heard from a lot of people that if you have it done after 31 weeks it's a little hard to see the face. here are some pics of what my 28 weeks u/s looked like if you're interested: http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/prissiemissie11/my_photos take out any -

Hi Trish, I had my 4-D at 28 weeks and the baby was very normal looking. The tech had to remind me that she wasn't full size yet because she looked like a healthy, chubby-cheeked baby. Since they offer the option ending at the 32nd week- that wasn't the Dr's job to criticize you for scheduling it at that time. If they think that's late, they shouldn't offer it. You may still be fine because the place we went to also had a 32 week cut-off. Every baby's so different, 32 weeks may not be a problem for you. But, if your baby is a little bigger than usual, you may not be able to get clear features. Good luck and I hope your results are successful!

Thanks for your honest input, girls! You've convinced me to bump-up my appointment. I hate to pay $175 and have an experience like Foxhoundsgr8. I enjoyed your photos, Marie and Mellissa! Thanks for sharing. I'm surprised at how "human" the pics look. I'm 28w 2d and am going to try to get my appt moved to the end of this week or next.
