About Contractions

I am 37 weeks and I was wondering can real labor contractions start off being very close together and frequent or do they have further apart to begin with and then get more and more frequent? I am having alot of them and they seem to be very close together but I am not sure at this point if it is just braxton hicks or not because they are not very painful at this point in time.. but they do hurt a bit and are very intense. I just want to know is it possible to go into real labor and have contractions so close together right off the bat?

Yep...a friend of mine just had a baby and she wasn't sure if she was in labor or not. Her contractions started off at 1 minute apart. She phoned her midwife who thought she was in false labor, but when the contractions didn't subside after moving around, she phoned her lamaze instructor who told her to go to the hospital. When she got there, they discovered that she was indeed in labor. At 37 weeks, it is definitely possible that this could be the real thing. Try doing a bit of activity, if they are bh, then they shouldn't be coming in a consistent rate. Or call your doc or go to the hospital if you are concerned. Good luck!

Hello, I did with my first. I went to bed feeling fine. Woke at 3 am contractions 1-2 minutes apart lasting a minute. If they do not go away you are supposed to call the doctor after an hour. Good Luck!

I ended up going to the hospital and they monitored me for about 5 hours... my blood pressure was up also. The contractions were there but they weren't changing my cervix so they sent me home.
