I want to make my own receiving blankets from flannel . Has anyone made them before? Not sure whether to make them one layer or two (like 2 sided) Also what to do around the edges.

Hi Melissa... 2 sided flannel or even a soft fleece is nice... mine are trimmed with satin (or satin like) material around the edge.

I made mine two sided, with extra large peices of flannel for swaddling. I just did a normal hem around the outside. I also found the most adorable little tags that say "Made with love by Mommy" that way, our baby will always have a special keepsake from her childhood.

I can't sew, I wish I could but I only manage to butcher the fabric, but my mom can sew beautifuly and she makes recieving blankets. She does a variety of trimming, like satin, a little crochet, or just a thick wipst_tch.She also makes them extra large, which is great once baby starts getting bigger.

Should i be doing any type of quilting etc on them, or will it not be a problem? I mean, will they stay together just by sewing around the outside and adding the trimming?
