Back Pain Amp Labour

Just wondering what back labour feels like..... I have back problems due to an injury before pregnancy. Cause I cant take any of my normal pain killers at the moment I am pretty much in constant pain in my back anyway. I am worried that I wont recognise labour for what it is because I am so used to ignoring what I am feeling back there. I have definatly felt an increase in pain over the last day or so, but dont know if that is because I am getting so much slower and heavier... oh and I stupidly tried to shave my legs the other day. Or if perhaps I should be paying attention to it? SO, the question is for anyone who has experienced it how would you describe the feeling? Oh and I am 38 weeks. Thanks guys.

I had back labor with my son and it was awful! My water broke so thats how I knew I was in labor and I started regular contractions. The back pain didnt start until the contractions were much closer together and I was more dilated. I dont really know how to describe it except something from the inside pushing so hard on the botton of your spine, tailbone area that it feels like its going to brake. I had my dh put major presure on it which helped ALOT. My back was so sore after I delivered from the pressure my husband had put on me. I should tell you I had no pain meds so I'm sure if you had some it wouldnt be as bad. Do they think your baby is facing forward. With me I had no idea I would have back labor until it was there.

hey Corbin, Thanks. Last time midwife checked baby was facing forward, I have been doing what I can to turn him around with these excersises where you get on all fours (not easy getting back off the ground!) So if he doesnt turn around then its likely that I could have a back labour... and they are also worried that due to having a bad back anyway that I might have a back labour even if he does turn. :0) Thanks.

Well I hope he does turn! They can do it right up until the end so I'll keep my fingers crossed for you! The end result is worth any and all the pain just remember that! Good luck!!

Back labor is....horrible. I had 14 hrs of it with my dd. No one would give me anything beyond the one shot of demerol (which did nothing to ease the pain at all) for pain relief... They told me why later. It happens when the baby is in a posterior presentation...or looking up instead of looking down like you mentioned. They can be turned...but I would suggest if you are at risk for back labor to REALLY advocate for decent pain control!! It hurts more than any other kind of labor!
