Hi...I posted on here last week about my situation. I was possibly going to have a c-sec last friday, had an amnio done on wed and found out thur her lungs weren't ready yet. I was 37 weeks 2 days when I had the amnio done. Well I am having my c-sec for sure this Friday. I will be 38 weeks 4 days. I am just nervous about her lungs. I know amnios aren't as accurate as we would like them to be, so she could have been ready last week. Do you think I am safe for this Friday?

I read somewhere that after 32 weeks you have a great chance of the baby being born just fine. My friend had her baby last year at 38 weeks, she was a small baby but she was fine. I could see them keeping you in the hospital longer maybe and monitoring the baby, but I don't think it will be a big deal if they want to go ahead and deliver. But this is just from what I heard and know from reading. I hope everything goes well!

Amnios are pretty accurate in determining lung maturity as far as I know. Are you a gest diabetic? If you are...the benchmark for safe delivery of the baby tends to be around 38.5 weeks.......earlier for non-diabetic pregnancies. You should be just fine. In the event though that the baby is delivered and has breathing issues....all they would do is place the baby on Oxygen until the lungs get a little better. It's not as scary as it sounds from what I have heard from the ladies on this forum whose babies wound up in the NICU for this reason. Good luck on friday!

I had my ds at 36 weeks, and he weighed 6lbs 1 oz and had no problems at all. I think your baby will be just fine.

My friend had triplets at 35 weeks and thier lungs were fine. Relax...it will all go well. 38 weeks 4 days is plenty of time for lungs to be ready. If you are still worried, you can request the steroid shots that help with lung development.

Thank you all so much for rea__surance. I am just a worrier and I want my little girl to be completely healthy. I am not gd so that's not an issue. My only real issue is that God forbid something is wrong, my hospital doesn't have a NICU...so we would be seperated for who knows how long and I really don't want that.

Anytime past the end of 37 completed weeks during a pregnancy should be more than fine to deliver. My c-section is scheduled for this coming Monday at which I will be 39w and 2d. I had been diagnosed with GD and also had steroid shots at 34 weeks due to early labor. My doctor told me that if I hadn't been diagnosed with GD, he would have scheduled my c-section for a week earlier but seeing as how my lo is going to be on the small side anyway, he wants to keep her in there as long as possible. He did tell me, however, at my 37 week appt. that even with me having GD, if I went into labor, he wouldn't stop it. Hope it helps! I'm sure your little one will be just fine.
