Cervical Check

Hi everyone, I am going for my first cervical check on wednesday and I am wondering what that feels like. Is it going to hurt or does it feel like a regular check? Thanks.....

If you are talking about the check for dilation and effacement, it feels like getting a pap smear.

It's not too bad. I think the comfort level depends on your doctor also. With my doctor it's not uncomfortable at all.

Thanks... and yes I was talking about the dilation check. A friend of mine said that it hurt and I just wanted to prepare myself. Thanks for the info.

Hey, you should check it yourself...many women on this site recommend it!! It's all about EMPOWERMENT girl...Just stick your two fingers in yourself (if you can actually reach back there, make sure you wash your hands so no infection can be pa__sed like GB Strep, try to figure out what you are feeling for, you need to know the correlation between your fingers and a ruler, like one woman claims) and GO for it! Why let a doctor do it when you can do it yourself...it's all about FEMINISM and taking control of your body!!! You shouldn't let a doctor tell you about your body, you should do it yourself, that way, you can be in charge of your WOMANHOOD!!!

or she could simply let the professional tell her an exact measurement. its not degrading to women to have their doctor do something that is perfecvtly normal, like measuring their cervix...

No offense Allison but I would rather have the doc do it!!!! For one, I can't reach that well and sometimes it's even hard the wipe my own a__s after going to the bathroom. And 2nd, I don't like to stick my fingers anywhere!!!! I'll leave that to the professionals but Thanks for the advise anyway!!

I am not sure but I think Allison was being sarcastic. Nicole and billie go read the thread t_tled dilation. There has been heated debate about checking for dilation. Personally I am on the you cannot chack yourself or should not check yourself side but I am not a feminist and actually I would rather go back 50 years to they way things were.

lol Billie...I wonder about these pregnant women some times and the poor babies who have to come into their world...So, how far along are you? I'm getting checked today at my appointment. Last time I was 2cm dilated and 0% effaced. I can't wait to see what I am today. When are you getting your cervical check?

Billie - May 4

I just got back from my appointment and I am 2cm dilated and 75% effaced!! And if anyone was wondering, nope, it didn't hurt!!!

me~ - May 4

congrats Bille not long now!!!! How far long are you?

Toya - May 4

Billie, we had our appointment on the same day. :) I'm just getting back from mine as well. I am 3cm dilated and 20% effaced. The Dr. said that the only reason I am not in labor is because the baby is so high that her head is not putting any pressure on my cervix...so, they recommended more walking and more s_x. She went ahead and stripped my membranes...which I was not planning to do until after Sunday...but she said that my cervix was really really soft. It didn't hurt at all.

My baby is DUE TODAY.. And i have had no signs of nothing.. And i am still the same 2cm dilated and baby has dropped and 100% effaced.. and nothing.. They told me that they where going to induce me on friday if nothing has changed by then.. so im hoping she will come on here own!

Allison - May 4

Nicole....THANK YOU!!!! I agree with you completely...I was being slightly sarcastic...just coming off the HUGE discussion on the "dilation" post about this exactly, you'd think, by the way some women write, that it is illegal to leave that to the care of their doctors. I'm glad you are not one of them.

Allison - May 4

Just another note: Actually, PP is right. No offence to Billie, I was being sarcastic, it was NOT meant to offend you in any way and I apologize if it did. I agree with those who think it should be up to the professionals. However, TOYA you are on the side of self checking so why now are you jumping ship? Don't worry about the baby I'm bringing into this world, worry about your own!

Billie - May 4

To Allison: I didn't realize that you were being sarcastic. I actually thought you were serious!! (lol) But I wasn't offended in any way. To Toya: How far along are you? I am 36 weeks but the doc told me today that I may not make it to term because I am running out of room. He's going to check me again next week. It really hit me today that the baby is coming in the next few days/weeks..... not months!!!!!!

Toya - May 4

Billie, I am 39 weeks.
