Childbirth Classes

My Lamaze class starts tomorrow and so far everyone I've talked to about childbirth classes seems to say the same thing, that they just threw the breathing stuff out the window at the last minute. Mommies-to-be, how do you feel about childbirth classes? Are you taking them? And experienced mommies, did you use any of the info and tips that you learned in class?

Lamaze is for the birds...I agree. I never used a THING from the Lamaze cla__ses I took. The best birthing cla__ses I ever took were the Bradley Cla__ses. They tell you EVERYTHING about childbirth. Youa re ready for every scenario, you are educated about every scenario. Then you make your own choices. It is very empowering. Just my opinion.

I haven't taken any cla__ses. I've done my own research and reading on relaxtion/coping methods for labor and I'm pretty confident that I can do it without cla__ses. If I were to take cla__ses, I would probably take Bradley rather than Lamaze.

Lamaze is a joke. The breathing stuff they teach you will just irritate you in the long run and possibly cause you to hyperventilate. Not good for you or the baby. I highly reccomend the Bradley Method cla__ses.

My dh and I are having a hypnobirthing instructor come straight to our home. From what I understand, this is the more modern technique of learning to relax while in labor. Not so much focusiing on the breathing but more focusing on relaxing through meditation. Althugh we have not had our cla__s yes, I thought I'd make the suggestion for another alternative. If you don't want to have a cla__s, you can always order a CD online on hypnobirthing. We have the CD's and they are really good at putting you in a relaxed state of mind.

I HAVE ORDERED A DVD CHILDBIRTH CLASS. I DON'T HAVE THE TIME OR DESIRE TO SPEND IN THE CLASSES. I DON;T PLAN ON HAVING NATURAL CHILDBIRTH BUT I DO WANT TO KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT AND HAVE A BACKUP PLAN JUST INCASE.

I took childbirth cla__ses...it wasn't lamaze or bradley i dont think. we were taught about the birth itself and shown quite a few videos of actual births...educated about possible scenarios like csections, what to look for as we get farther along that could be a problem, the stages of labor, a little about infant care and safety...i thought that it was great, the breathing stuff was good too, it was not the major focus of the cla__s but as the nurse who was teaching it told us, it's more like a guideline because a lot of people just forget to breathe period when they are having a contraction because of the pain and the babies really need the oxygen. i personally have used the breathing techniques already when ive gotten stressed out and feel like i need to relax and it really helps me out. i think that for me it was worth it for sure to take the cla__s...my boyfriend learned a LOT too because he never listens to most of what i tell him about it and so he had to focus on it there

oh and mine was a natural childbirth cla__s either really because they taught us about all the various methods of pain control if we need it and also about getting induced....im going to try for natural but it was really comforting to understand the different ways of pain management in case i do indeed need to use them
