When you have your glucose test for GD, do you have to fast before you have it? I was going to go this morning as I don't need an appointment, but thought that I better check to see if I can have my morning coffee or breakfast? Please help

I wasn't told to fast, but I think you're supposed to avoid food & drink an hour before the test.

i dont know if its the same for every country, but here, generally u cant eat anything for 10-12 hours prior..and are only aloud to drink a small amount of water. but thats what i had to do for a 2 hour test. the ppl who take the blood have a sheet that u can read up on. maybe call them and ask?

If this is your 1st test (not the 3 hr test), then you should be fine with no need for fasting. Although I've read posts that say eat protein (like eggs sausage etc) for breakfast instead of something sweet. I guess it doesn't hurt to not eat anything 1hr before test as Tillie mentioned. Good luck! I hope you pa__s!!

Thanks ladies for the response's. I guess I don't have to fast for the one hour test but, I also had a three hour test with my second daughter so I couldn't remember from then, and the doc didn't say anything. Hope I pa__s too. I am already 31 weeks and they are just doing this test now. I thought that when I had it done with my girls that it was way before now but I guess not. Thanks.

When I went to have mine...they told me absolutely nothing to eat or drink before. I was sooo hungry and I am always thirsty so I was a pretty upset prego woman. Haha....I would call & ask b/c they might tell everyone different at different places.
