I had an u/s today and I'm almost 39 weeks and they siad baby is weighing almost 9lbs how true can this be? I've only gained 20 lbs to date and people said that I look great and don't even look preggo from the back veiw of me, thats a big baby!!! Should I be worried about the size and or getting even bigger?

I saw my Dr today and my ultrasound said that my baby was 8lbs 6oz and the Dr told me that the weight can be give or take a lb or two. if the baby is BIG then I would guess that the baby is only 8 maybe even 7. I'm being induce Tuesday so I guess we will see how right it is. I would talk to your Dr about how your worried and start talking about being induced. Whats the worse your Dr. could say NO. Thats what I did today and that I don't want to have a Big baby with my daugther she was born at 37 weeks and 9 lbs. Good Luck

u/s can be off by a pound or 2 late in pregnancy, they may say the baby is weighing 9lbs, but may come out only being 7 or just never know.....and how much weight you have gained really doesn't matter of my friendnds gained 14lbs in her pregnancy and her baby weighed almost 9lbs when born, leaving her with only 5 extra pounds!! Crazy!

Weight gain doesn't necessarily mean anything. I lost weight the whole time with each of my pregnancies. I weighed less at 9 months than I did pre-preg and my babies were 9 lbs. 5 oz. , 8 lbs. 3 oz. and 10 lbs. 6 oz.! I swear my whole metabolism changed lol. The latest u/s I had was with my daughter at 32 weeks. It estimated her at 4 lbs. 7 oz., putting her on target to maybe be a 9 lber. I think she would have been, too, if she had gone to 40 weeks. I had a scheduled c-section 10 days before her due date and she was the one that was 8-3. That said... I have seen some ladies on here whose u/s's were WAY off...

They can definitely be off. My sister was told she had to induce because her son was so big, she had GD. The induction didn't work and she had to have a C section, well it turned out he was only 6lbs 3oz. They had told her he was almost 9! I'm not saying that is always the case, but the are not always completely accurate.

i believe they can be off by as much as 2lbs.

With my 2nd baby at 40 weeks I was told he was just over 7lbs but I was sooo uncomfortable. I asked my Dr. to induce but he wouldn't. I am very pet_te and just knew he was bigger than they predicted. He was a week late and 9lbs 2oz, they broke his collar bone pulling him out.

oh my mama of three, i cant believe they broke his collar bone, was he okay afterwards?
