I Can T Sleep

I am 38 wks and if anyone's noticed, most of my postings are late at night till early morning hours! The reason is because I CAN'T SLEEP and this is where I come to "do something" other than stare at the clock counting contractions! Yes, the contractions awake me and sometimes don't even let me get to sleep to begin with but it's not just that. With the intense heartburn, the having to pee every hour (if I'm lucky) and the inability to painlessly switch sides (I'm a turner) it seems impossible to get a good night's sleep. Okay, now if that's not enough to keep a tired, worn out pregnant woman from getting enough zzzz's, even when I'm most comfortable and completely exhausted I will lie in bed with my eyes wide open not being able to even attempt to close them. I don't know why this is! I feel more sleep deprived now than I ever have and I can't even sleep! I wonder if it's just because I am so anxious and excited to start labor. But, I don't feel the need to be awake for the start of the labor process! I'm sure I wont sleep through it! LOL If anyone has some good natural remedies or advice on how to sleep better or actually.. just SLEEP, I sure would appreciate it. Anyone else feel like I do?

I dont have any advice Sabrina....but I feel for you. I went through about 2 weeks of not being able to sleep, for no reason...it just seemed that my eyes would not close, or my brain would not shut off, even though I was exausted. Then it just went away...I am 32 weeks now and doing pretty good. Hang in there.....your baby will be here soon enough and hopefully your partner can help carry the load for a bit!

Take a hot bath before you go to bed and burn some lavendar scented candles to help you relax.Sometimes this wakes me up rather than making me tired, but then as soon as I hit the bed my body is completely relaxed and my eyes usually follow.

I am 34 weeks tomorrow and have always had sleep problems. I take one Tylenol PM if I know I'm not going to sleep. My dr says its fine to take two if I need. Good luck.

Hi - June 22

I was having trouble sleeping because I was so uncomfrtable all through the night. I was constantly tossing and turning because laying on one side for too long was achy. I bought this pillow from Walmart that wraps around your back and goes between your knees and ever since I started using that, I've been able to sleep a lot easier. Besides getting up 3 or 4 times to pee! Other than that, I usually just watch tv until I fall asleep. I don't know if this helps, but good luck anyway! =)

Don't look at your alarm clock to see what time it is.

ginger - don't take tylenol at alllllll. it will dely your labour big time. i read up on it online and im glad i stopped takiing tylenol in my 2nd trimester. unless you are getting a c-section - stop taking it. it slows the birthing process down badly

Ginger - June 22

Anne- I had not heard that it delayed labor. I started having Braxton Hicks contractions about a week ago???

ginger - June 22

you will still have BH, i mean actual labour. my sister-in-law took tylenol after her 36th week and it caused a long labour. i read up on it and found out you should mess with tylenol, advil, etc in the last few weeks.

hi I have the problem. Can't sleep even if I'm very sleepy. Lately I desided no matter how tired I am I make myself stay up till 12:30 or 1:00 then try to sleep that seems to help.

in the same boat :O( - June 23

I started having contractions Wed @ 12:30am,went to the hospital at 8:00am,I was sent home because my contractions were not strong enough. Last night I was not able to sleep at all,the minute I sart to fall asleep I get a strong contraction. Today I am 41 weeks 1 day! I'm going in this a.m. they may be starting me on gel or break my water depending on how my contractions are. Good luck on sleeping..
