My contractions are 8 mins apart. when should I leave home

Most L&D's won't admit you until contractions are 5 min apart and are strong enough to the point you can't talk through them. You can always call though and see what they say. If they won't admit you until you have reached that point there is really no point in going b/c they may send you home. Good luck.

How far are you from the hospital?? I would leave now!! I have not idea if that's a bit too early, but I'd want to be there...I have 9 days until my due date and feel nothing really!! Good luck to you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay, so that makes sense they don 't admit you until 5 minutes, but say you get there at 8 minutes apart because you timed getting to the hospital a little too early...would they really send you home?? I"m about 45 minutes from the hospital I'm using and if I go into labor during rush hour during the week, say, it could take way longer than that and I'd want to know I'm in the car on the way there so I don't get stuck...especially if my husband has to drive home from work from that direction and pick me up...I mean, the contractions at that point, say 8 minutes apart, are only going to get stronger, right?? I guess you'd just hang out in the hospital at that point until they'd admit you??

They should admit you at eight minutes apart, I think L&D will admit a woman who believes she is in labor regaurdless. If yours doesn't then you seriously need to check into another one :( I wish you all the best!

I agree with HeavenisMine. I worked at the hospital and we would admit anyone who thinks they are in labor...if not, they will check on you and let you go home.

If they don't admit you, you might be able to walk around the hospital until things progress, either inside or outside the building depending on what the weather is like. In my prenatal cla__s, the instructor said a lot of women do that when they're not far along enough to be admitted, but too far from home to want to leave.

Guess What!!! Turns out! in the middle of the day about 5 p.m. the pains stopped! I thought that the pains were false. At 3 a.m that Monday morning I called the nurse and told her that my pains had started back and this time they were worse and really close together! She told me to come to the hospital... I got there about 4 a.m. and when I got there I was only 1 cm dilated, but they didn't send me home! About 2 something, I was fully dilated and I had my little boy at 2:44 p.m. He was 7 lbs and 1 oz! He is the sweetest baby alive! It was some experience... I didn't have an epidural, I was afriad... I heard it messes up your back! I just had IV medications that made me really sleepy. About 5 that afternoon, I fainted. They said it was because I lost too much blood! I hated the labor pains, but in the end I'm glad I went through with it. Now, I have to think about ever having any more kids! LOL!
