Is Labour Time Hereditary

I am just wondering if labour time is hereditary because my mother and my grandmother both had really quick babies and I am worried my family wont be able to make the drive in time! My grandmothers longest labour was 2 1/2 hours! My mom has 4 hour labours both with my sister and I. I am moving out of town on the 1st of May at least 45min to an hour drive away! I am worried that by the time I call them and they get ready and head out my baby would be born! Just the little things I think of :-/

I've never heard of labor times being hereditary, but you never know. My last one was really quick (6 hr) so I'm like you worrying that my mom won't make it (she too has about a 45 min. drive). She got to the last one right as I started pushing. I try to keep in mind that the most important thing is having a healthy baby. And to be honest with you when it comes right down to the end and you're so focused on pushing and having your'll probably not even think about them not being there if they don't make it. With all of mine when it got to the final heave-ho I probably never would have noticed if DH had left. Don't know if everyone is like that, but I was.

I wish this was true!! My mom had 4 and 6 hour labors with me and my sis...when I had my daughter, I was in labor for 36 hours. I think it's all about your body!

I guess thats true Rabbit, when it comes down to it, its not that big of a deal that they are there or not as long as the baby is healthy. and Drew I hope your case is not mine!! No 36 hours for me please! =P

I dont know if its hereditary, but I sure hope so. my moms first labor (with my sister) was 4 hours, and with me it was 2 hours. With my sister she was induced, and had an epidural which is supposed to slow labor down a bit. With me she did not have time to get the epidural b/c I came so fast. I would absolutely love to follow in her footsteps with short labors!!

I also wish it were hereditary! My mom's labour with me was 3 hours. I laboured 18 hours with my son. Hoping for less than 10 hours this time!!!

Its funny to see how many people want it to be and how many dont want it to be. I guess its all how your body works! :-) thanks ladies

It seemed to be hereditary for me. My mom's labors went from 4 hours with the 1st, 3 with the second, and 2 for her third. With my daughter, I got to the hospital at 3:30 p.m., and had her at 6:44 p.m. Hopefully this little guy will come just as quick!
