Is The Nurse Right

I had called the OB on call yesterday regarding some va___al discharge. (looked like a big snot ball-first yellowish then clear) and she said it sounded as if it could be the mucous plug, etc and that I should come in and get checked. I didn't go in yesterday because I didn't want to go through the ER and get charged an arm and a leg. I called my regular OB and talked to the nurse and she said it didn't sound like the mucous plug at all, but perhaps an infection.. I am going in today to get "swabbed" so they can check for an infection. I see the nurse practioner. If she has to swab do you think she will see the cervix? should I ask her to check me to make sure I am not dilating and effacing already? I am only 32 weeks along.

hi ashley,, probably ur still so early for any dilation or effacement.. if i were u, i wouldn't ask if they didnt check my cervix.. let them confirm to u first if its an infection or the mucous plug and then u can decide if u would like to know about ur cervix.. i wasn't checked internally until 37 weeks and then at 38 weeks i gave birth to my baby which was 2 weeks ago.. good luck :)

generally i think they dont check ur cervix until the 36-37 mark because it could actually aggrivate it and speed the whole thing up. at around 31-32 weeks i was getting extra discharge. i dont think its anything to be worried about. of course its always safer to be safe than sry. but i dont think they will check ur cervix unless they are really concerned. gl :)

i went in to the docs.. they did check me and she said cervix was 2 inches long and closed. No infection and negative fetal fibrinectin test.. so guess this baby is staying put for at least two weeks. They did say no s_x. gee no problem!
