Liam David Has Arrived

So last week I had been asking questions about cramping and such that I was having on Thursday. My doc confirmed that it was contractions but since they weren't regular or anything i stayed home. Friday was supposed to be my last day at work before my maternity leave but i was still in pain so I called in and started my leave day early. On saturday I went to the doctor for my 39 week appointment. No progress. No dialation, no effacement. I wasn't too surprised though...as I always said, I expected to go 2 weeks late. Sunday I woke up and once again thought I might be dripping fluid but since the last time I thought I was leaking, (a week before) it turned out that I was wrong and it was just excess discharge, i decided it was the same thing. That night (9/23) my husband went with his friend to see a movie...just before he left I started really considering the thought that I was leaking fluid...but once again ignored it and kissed him goodbye and settled in to watch some tv. At around 9pm I was now convinced I was leaking fluid because everytime i got up to use the bathroom, when I was done and had pulled up my panties, I could feel, what i thought was pee, come out. I checked and it was definately not pee. So I sent him a text message and asked what time he was coming home and told him that I thought i was leaking fluid again...but wasn't sure. he came home about 15 min later and we went to the hospital. called the doctor on the way. We arrived at the hospital at 9:30 Sunday night...they confirmed that I had broken my water and had a slow leak and induced me with picotin at 10pm...I labored throughout the night with help of many drugs...didn't dialate very quickly at all! At 10 am they broke the rest of my water bag and then the contractions got REALLY intense. I was crying from the pain of them and even though I was only at 3 cenemeters they decided to give me my epidural noon. Let me tell you...getting the epidural was nothing. He had to stick me 3 times to get it right...but honestly it didn't hurt going in...just felt weird. after that I was able to get some cat naps in. At 5:00pm on Monday the 24th they said I could start pushing. I pushed for 3 1/2 hours. At the 2 1/2 hour mark I was ready to give up. Let me tell you I was crying and saying that I just couldn't do it. The doc said that she wouldn't let me push past 3 hours. they gave me 2 more boosts of the epidural and I was begging for it to be over. The doctor asked if I wanted help via vacuum extractor...and I said "YES!" they went over the risks and started to prepare it. As they were preparing the doc said "I think you can do it...lets try a few more pushes." I swear i was going to deck her because she kept saying, "just 2 more pushes, Just 2 more" and well...30 minutes later (and much more then 2 pushes later, Liam was born into the world. After 23 hours of labor, 3 1/2 hours of pushing finally he came out and I heard him cry. It was a great sound. Sept 24, 2007. 8:35 pm. 8 lbs 7 oz, 21 inches.

HI! First off, congratulations!!! He is a beautiful healthy baby!!!! How are you feeling? Also i was just wondering- i know before you had the baby you were kind of concerned because you weren't really feeling "that love" for him yet, how did you feel once you saw him? Was it like total admiration?

Rainbowbrite - September 28

I'm sorry if i was out of place for asking that to you... I have always just wondered how you would feel once he was finally here!!

First of all, congrats!! sounds like the baby is doing well and I hope you are the same. Reading your delivery descript reminded me alot of my own. I remember yelling YES when they offered the vac, but they didn't go over the risks (though I did notice the room suddenly filled w/a lot more people). I too had been pushing for 3 hrs, was exhausted and not making progress. It was painful, but the vac worked in about 90 seconds and my baby was fine (not even a temporary mark from the procedure). Just thought I'd add it in, in case anyone else finds themselves facing this issue. Incidentally, i'm hoping the next one comes out easier, but i'm not betting on it.
